We have had a great discussion going about how to improve the CCS qualifying procedures for Track and Field.
Do you have another topic that you would like to see discussed on this site as well? Please include your topic in the comment section below or you can email me at albertjcaruana@gmail.com. I have some ideas in mind but will let people chime in first.

Always love discussions about which NorCal teams will be ones to watch when XC comes around, and who the favorites are for each division of NCS, CCS, etc.
Good one. I will have time to post the pre-season XC rankings for each section during the summer.
Until then, I will ask everybody in a post later for your feedback on who are the favorites, who are the sleepers, etc. heading into next season.
With everybody's help, we should be able to come up with state rankings as well. How many NorCal teams are in a position to get on the podium again next year? Who are the top individuals?
I think you should do a topic on how the new transfer rules could lead to many transfers and all star teams. Imagine the top 4-5 girls or boys in an area transferring to one school to dominate!
Do we really want high school athletes to become free agents?
Forget parents or coaches recruiting, athletes will start recruiting each other via Facebook.
Discuss.
Here's two: "Why do boys run 65mH, and girls run 100mH?"
and
"The value of Dual meets"
Some more excellent topics. Keep them coming.
Adding the 3200m Relay and javelin to regular events in California track and field.
+1 for adding the 3200 relay.
I also like the 4X800, but the DMR would be a nice addition too, even if it's not quite as popular.
4x200m would be nice too
DMR at State would be difficult given that doubling in distances 800m or over is extremely taxing for any athlete. Most likely, teams that qualified a DMR to the State meet would have at least one member of that relay moving on to state in an individual event.
However, I like the consolation 4x800 at ncs MOC. I don't see why it couldn't be a DMR.
Newbie here, going through first playoff (right term?) season and was wondering what inspirational advice did your coach give that helped you get mentally prepared for that very important race and coaches what do you do to help set your runners focus.
First of all, congratulations on a great blog. This site is definitely a must read for any runner or parent of a distance runner.
I would like to see articles / suggestions from coaches/runners on techniques to help runners. How does a runner learn the proper technique to run up hills and down hills? What is the proper arm swing, body lean etc.. If coaches such as yourself can write an occasional article on how you teach your runners proper techiniques, I am sure many of us newbies can benefit. From reading your interviews, it seems it is not unusual for many runners to start in high school.
Thanks again.
In the spirit of the above posts, I'd love to see something like a "Great ideas from..." series of posts. Like, coaches and athletes sharing great ideas that they/their team has, for training, teaching, motivation, camaraderie, whatever.
Think of it like an interview question, "What's something great that your team/coach/athletes do, that you're willing to share with others?"
Noted. Will see what I can do.
I have a question that is conceived out of pride but after further thought, i feel like it deserves some investigation:
Is there a more loaded league championship final in NorCal in the 800m than the EBAL boys final this weekend?
Joel Schmierer - 1:54.03
Trevor Fuhriman - 1:54.04
Trevor Holmgren - 1:54.09
Conner Mckinnon - 1:55.39
Parker Deuel - 1:55.45
Evan Molineux - 1:55.83
Brian Hardy - 1:56.54
Adrian Capinpin - 1:57.52
Or even in the state??
I am guessing there is not a league in Northern California that can match those 800m. times. Southern California might be a different case.
According to times on dyestat it looks like there actually isn't a league in the state with 8 800m times like that. Impressive. Unfortunately, almost all of those 8 runners graduate this year.
Poor Bell. 4 boys sub 10, only two go to CCS. Poor kid missed it by less than a second.
Time for a new commentary Albert! Next topic please.
From you or ask a favor from one of your coaching buddies it doesn't matter!
Will do. Sometime this week.
How about something about some of the Norcal runners competing at the D1 college level? Sarah Sumpter (formerly Healdsburg high school) inspired a lot of people this weekend with her amazing 10000/5000 double at the Big West championships. She's been through a lot, including cancer, and it's amazing that she fought and came back.
