Greedy politicians. What is the complaint here?
Another factor is that if the State Meet is moved this would also kill the Clovis Invitational. Over 4,000 athletes, 160+ teams. They collect fees for both Friday and Saturday there.
I have never been a fan for Woodward Park. I think much of the course needs to be fixed. The sudden bottle neck and jumping up and down curbs in the first 200 meters could be easy fixed with some minor construction and $$$ from CIF. Not to mention the narrow path. At the State meet I imagine a wide open trail similar to the NCAA and US & World Championships is a much better way to go.
But the question is, who would host? Where? At what venue?
There are amazing places to run, especially near the coast. It might be time for a change.
And while we are off it, change the weekend! Black Friday, the weekend of Thanksgiving is great, but hotels, restaurants are full and it ruins family plans. Maybe it is time for a change.
You got that right: GREED! Average woman/man becomes a politician, and suddenly all they think about is how to stick it to every person, entity, or organization to squeeze $$$$$$$ out of them.
Fresno invests $7100 for a return of how much? $1 million? $420,000? $350,000? Seems like a no brainer. Oh...but what if they stay in Clovis? Sheesh.
I agree with the above post. Fresno is a central location, but it is seriously not that great of course, and while it used to be more maintained and have defined course maps, etc., it has deteriorated.
Think of it like the Olympics. Let cities bid for it and produce a quality course, just like they do with USATF, also, and forget about a 6-year deal. Make it one or two.
Time to change the venue.
Who cares if the Clovis Invitational went away? Talk about using Woodward Park to it's advantage - the entry fees for Clovis Invitational are riduculously high, only justified that teams will compete in order to race at the State meet venue. Good riddance!
Everyone needs to remember that most other venues would charge CIF to hold the state meet. Fresno is unique in that it PAYS CIF to host.
ˆGood post.
For those who want State to move, where else could it be held that is centrally located, has a good course with infrastructure to boot (parking, hotels, etc)?
You also have to choose a location that allows teams to race it earlier in the season (i.e. Clovis, Roughrider, etc).

OK, a couple of thoughts from the article and a couple from these posts...
1) Liability? Really, no contract? They need to CYA and get it in writing. Cali has been lucky so far that no major lawsuit has been brought forward.
2) Greed? What gives here? Fresno gives CIF the park and lets them keep parking, etc. Fresno gets hotels & food for 4000+ folks? Sounds like a fair deal to me. IMO
3) I guess we could always go to the H2O Polo State Meet instead... oh wait, there is NO water polo State Meet (or swimming for that matter), can we now count our blessings (no matter how much it costs everyone)?
