DAL Meet #2 review - @ Newhall, different course than Nike Invitational, faster, so hard to compare times from Wed's race to Nike times. However, DAL is ONE super league split into TWO divisions. All teams run at same time, only scored against your division. As expected on the boys side, CAMPO was very strong. 6 of overall top 12 were Campo runners led by Yabu. They dominated their division results. Miramonte slowly improving, had two of top 5, Fierro still strong. Kabani from Northgate having solid second half of season. Clayton Valley dropped off a lot. Found my inside source who tells me that CVCHS is decimated with cold/flu bug right now. Boys only had 2 of normal 7 healthy, 4 of normal 7 ran in race. Even with that, they won their division. #1 team runner, White (one of those ill) still ran PR and finished 7th overall. Makes me wonder when White gets healthy, can he challenge Yabu and Fierro?

Noteworthy:
* Noah Wallace (Rio) and Delaney Rasmussen (Vista) looked stellar in harsh windy & rainy conditions at Willow Creek. Noah put the hammer down from the gun and wore down pre-race favorite Colin DeJulio (Vista). Delaney surged at mile 1 and pulled away from favorite, Chaves (El Camino).
* Rio boys won the team league title and beat Vista by 20 points. Quite dominant considering the other teams in league are pretty weak. Rio favorites going into sections, but Vista might just miss out on state berth if their 3-5th runners can't pick it up.
* Vista girls won their league title by 10 points over Rio. Closer than expected but with stronger D3 teams at section champs, Vista clear favorites to win section and Rio might surprise with a state berth.

WACC Meet #3 review - @ Oyster Bay, rain left much of the course (including a downhill run 3 times) extremely slick and muddy, therefore not much to glean from times. Like the DAL above, everyone races together but is competing for one of two titles. On the boys side: Pack running was the name of the game as Bishop O'Dowd (36) put their 1-4 runners in places 3-6 to help win the meet over an improving Berkeley (43) team which put their 2-5 runners in places 9-12 directly ahead of third place Castro Valley's (52) 3-5 athletes who took the 13th-15th places. The girls team competition seemed to rely on paired athletes in the case of both 1st place O'Dowd (41) and CLOSE 2nd Alameda (43), but Peidmont (53) placed third by putting their top 3 in spots 7-9. Individual victories went to Sebastian Andersson (Berkeley) and Lauren Lum (Alameda) in respective races.

Chaves did fairly well despite having the flu, she wanted to still race to earn All League. It will be fun seeing her at 100% at sections.

Rather impressed with how Whitney Boys did against favored Bella Vista. 5 freshman boys in the their first 7 runners! They will be a team to be reckoned with the next 3 years in D2.

Bella Vista girls looked very sharp after their Clovis tune-up last week. Not a surprise win, but first time they beat Consumnes Oaks this year. Might find some other teams doing that 2-mile time-trial race doing those tune-ups next year.

I expected more from BV and DC boys. Hurt? Fatigued? or poo-pooing league to focus more on Sections/State? If the latter, fine, but league should still mean something. Why not allow all SJS league champs to skip Subs since they made the league commitment? Congrats to Whitney. Young and hungry team with new coach.

How is no one talking about Chao and Ruane from Campolindo going 1-2 on Haskell at the DAL center meet? I know she was coming off of racing Mt Sac but that is still pretty incredible considering how far back they were from her at the start of the season. How is it that Campo manages to do this almost every year? They always look beatable early on and then all of a sudden they come alive and run phenomenally well at the end.
