At least Gregori is mentioned however they have beat Modesto 4 times this season.
while it is nice to see someone rank the SJS I think too much stock is placed in the Hypothetical meet on Athletic.net. while you can generally get a good idea who is good and who is not there is alot of information about teams that dont get included in a ranking in that Hypothetical. For example, Del Campo, although the gold standard over the years, is not very good this year with injury affecting their season. I know that their two top guys have been hurt and they have no one in the important 5-7 spots. Bella Vista is really good but did get beat at league by a REALLY young Whitney team. Both Rocklin and Whitney have to overcome their youth to beat a veteren BV squad. I agree that BV is still the favorite with the tough section course to manage by the youngsters but it will be fun to watch that race. Granite Bay has two studs up front but NOTHING after that. I dont think they should be that high up but I do think they get into the finals. Lodi and Tokay are really good but I dont trust those times from their league meets. They just dont jive with results from the known at invitationals. I think though that either one of those teams could sneak in over Rocklin or Whitney for the State meet.
Davis seems off this year with their depth but they tend to do well at sections. I would probably have them higher. Rio and Vista will be really fun to watch in the D3 races. I think those rankings are right on. Both teams are well coached and are ready for the post season every year. anyway, thanks for the rankings and its fun to analyze but race day is the great final decider. something I love about cross country.
Whitney beat Bella Vista at their league meet. They should switch positions.
I think sub-sections gives a decent indicator of the strategy employed by the top teams (Jesuit, Bella Vista, Davis, Woodcreek, etc.). Many of the teams ran 6 runners to leave the 7th open to either a run off (in the JV race) or to leave space for a top runner who might be coming back from injury. Frogtown is notorious for the massive hill, which is a challenge, but even more so going down the backside where twisting an ankle or a knee happens pretty frequently. Teams leave it all out on the line at sections, but if you have a top runner (or more) who is nursing an injury, better to look at the big picture and running well at sections to give yourself a chance for a berth at state. Even with injury concerns, I expect the rankings to hold for Boys at the top of D1, D2 and D3. I think the run for the second state spot in D1 should be pretty interesting.
