Every year the talk is SF might beat Bell and every year it's not even close. How has the WCAL been so one sided for so long?

Next year!

I'm not sure anyone suggested that SF was going to beat Bell this year. If they did, it was wishful thinking. Bell started out the year as the #4 ranked team in the state. They are a large (for Norcal) D1 team with an enrollment equivalent of 3200. They have 140 distinct records listed on Athletic.net. By contrast, SF started off ranked in the 60's, are D2 with 1757 kids, and 65 runners on the boys side. That being said, there have been a few races this year that were close: 12 points at Crystal Invite, 13 at Ed Sias. Also, there have been multiple times where the SF "B" team, JV, Frosh-Soph have finished ahead of Bell. All of that points to a narrowing of the gap, and an eventual win here and there for the SF first team, possibly starting next year when the Bells lose a couple scorers and SF loses none. This is the kind of rivalry we should be encouraging in Norcal so all of our teams get elevated to go south and win when it really counts.

The California "Super 25" was just posted by Rich Gonzalez and there are 3 CCS boys teams on it: #11 Bellarmine, #17 St. Francis, and #21 Palo Alto. This tracks well with the Walt's rankings on the Lynbrook site. Bell is the number 5 DI school listed, Paly is number 9. SF is the number 5 DII program. All three represent the our best shot at breaking up the SS dominance and possibly getting on the podium.

Walt doesn't do rankings, he does "comparisons".

All good points by 8:22am, but don't forget that one of Bell's top guys has been out (Richardson, CCS 1600m champion). That means that the scores have been much closer than they would have otherwise been, and it also means that only 1 out of the current top 5 guys is a senior. So expecting SF to beat Bell next year is still a stretch.

Injuries happen, of course, but it's a shame because this Bell team has/had a chance to beat a historically-great NorCal team.

It is a shame that Richardson has been out, especially bc it is his senior year. Hopefully he will recover for track season. As to the number of scorers lost next year: it is definately 2, Dobler and the Micallef/Deck combo. A 2017 matchup based on today's times puts SF on top by a few points. New blood and improvements can change that but the next 2 years will be very interesting in the WCAL.

Hank, then someone should tell Walt to change the name of his "2016 CCS Team Ranking and Individual Comparison." Just saying ;-)

Those are rankings.

The information under the link that you state are indeed "Team Rankings" but they are NOT done by Walt, they are done by coaches that send in their votes and they are then tabulated. But what Walt sends me are his Team Comparisons and I take the "liberty" to include them as a vote towards the team rankings. His individual comparisons are just that and are labeled as such. Now you have the needed information so that you don't have to make up assumptions. :-)

Hank, thanks for the clarification. I'm not sure why someone would not assume that Walt did the team rankings too since the title of the spreadsheet includes the words Team, Rankings, and From Walt. Regardless, we all enjoy the rankings and comparisons. Keep up the good work.
