Why does oakland even have there own section?
hahaha 20k winning time
Another section could use the spot at the state starting line better. Maybe D1 or 3? Horrible times.
Toughest course in California!
Anon 8:41- probably true! Running in Joaquin Miller Park is where my son got a hamstring injury that cost him the whole 2013 season.
I am sure there are others that can explain the historical break down of sections better than I. Please remember that there are many other sports that take place in the Oakland Section and some of them are quite competitive. Looking at times and stating that that spot should go to another section is not quite that simple. Does that mean that you should get the spot of another section if they ran slower than you?
It does seem odd, though, that you have this little carved out section, along with San Francisco Section that makes them islands in the NCS. Just seems that all would be best served if they were part of NCS.
Kids will run according to level of competition. Race more competitively and they will be more competitive.
As far as toughest course in CA...disagree with that. It may be tough, but there are many just as difficult.
Albert,
Everytime you publish the oal and perhaps to sf section too, you need to attach an explanation. It comes up each year......
joaquin miller has a large variety. elementary school teams run meets there - high school teams train there. it is basically what an xc course should be - trails, grass, hills.
Honestly, people can complain all they want. The SF, Oak and LA sections are not going to dissolve anytime soon. Everybody knows what it takes to get to the state meet from their respective section and should focus on that.
I believe Peter Brewer put out a great response and history to this last year. Remember the sections are much older and with a greater history than the State Meet.
As Albert said should the faster sections take mores spots away? That would leave NCS with zero spots in D1 for XC. If you want to start comparing sections look in the mirror first.
unrelated but i would greatly appreciate it if we could see it; a new thread discussing coach gifts. i swear its the hardest part of the post-season
