Any reason two sub 9:10 guys running JV for Bellarmine? Peattie winning the JV race is terrible sportsmanship, I’m sorry.

In our league, coaches can place their runners in either varsity or JV at our first two league meets. I know coaches don't haphazardly put athletes in races without a good reason and I am sure that is the case for Bellarmine at the first WCAL meet.

This is the problem with a 50% rule. Why can’t a coach hold out an athlete without fear of being ineligible for the post season. It is rediculous to have some of the best runners in the state run a JV race. Why run at all? Stay home and do a workout.

Anybody know if Juan Pablo Garcia of Saint Francis is still running Cross Country? Last I recall, he was a junior last year and should still be a senior on the team.

JP is on his way back from injury and also has been doing some college visits. St. Francis hopefully will be at full strength in early October

Well he has to run WCAL #2 & Finals or he is ineligible for CCS. Running injuries do not exempt from the 50% rule, has to be non-sports related for medical exemption. Another problem with that stupid rule.

I'm a part of the Saint Francis team and JP is looking strong now and I can assure you he will be in the lineup for those meets

I can't speak for the WCAL but if a student misses both league meets for our league due to an injury, the coach can petition on behalf of the athlete and I would say, all of such requests are passed by the board of directors which allow said athlete to compete at their league final. The reason for the 50% rule is so that teams don't just show up with a ringer or two at the league finals who have not competed during the regular season.

I personally like how we (the WBAL) and WCAL determine our league champions as all the league meets are worth something and the team that eventually wins is most often the deserving champion. I am not a big fan of some leagues that have league meets that don't mean anything and as a result, some teams end up jogging those meets. I don't think taking students out of class early and using schools funds to pay for buses etc for such meets is in the best interest of those schools.

An injury right now doesn't mean much. Paly's runner now at Yale, Henry Saul was injured for the entire season up until mid October and managed to run 15:15 at Woodward Park a month later. I'm sure Garcia will be fine, lol.

It sounds as if the list of registered athletes is posted somewhere. If so, can some please point me to it?

Registered athletes for?

Albert, the rule is clear that to get to the post season you must participate in 50% of the league meets. It is also clear that to be medically exempt you must have a non-sports related ailment.

It is also true regarding the "ringer" though that is informed at the league level. A number of years ago a runner from Notre Dame who came out the last half of the season (a new runner new to the sport) and CCS ruled they were ineligible for CCS while at other schools.

St. Francis girls put 3 in the top 10 of the Sweepstakes race at Woodbridge, all ahead of Great Oaks #1, If they can develop a good 4 and 5, could make a run at a NXN berth. Harper McClain continues to make her mark with a 4th place finish in the sweeps. Hardly any NorCal boys competed in the Sweeps, but Daniel Hernandez continued his strong early season with a 15th place finish.

Figuring the Great Oak collective psyche took a hit getting beat by California teams in both the boy's and girl's races. Newbury Park looks like they are shaping up to be the next California dynasty with a ton of incredible talent coming up through their youth programs.

Excited for Capital Cross this weekend in Sacramento, middle school, high school and college races, something for everyone on a legit cross country course.

Let’s not get away from the 50% rule discussion with real results from this weekend. The truth is the WCAL will re-race and add in as many races as needed to get their athletes to qualify for CCS.

You are 100% wrong about that.
