That was on the third cross country Alexandra Klos of Vista del Lago has ever run, another soccer player transitioning to XC. Taking nothing away from an incredibly impressive win, in a prestigious race, it seems like Chamberlain is still shaking off some of the rust from last year. Her run 16th place finish in the Sweepstakes race at Woodbridge where she finished behind Harper McClain of St. Helena and 3 St. Francis runners (Joaquin, Fauria and Cornejo) wasn't up to her incredibly high standards.

No surprise that Matt Strangio of Jesuit won the seeded race, but just like the week before at DeLaSalle, he destroyed the record with his 14:39.9 5k on the rolling Arcade Creek Golf Course, an incredible performance that I don't think people will be able to put in to perspective until some years go by at the relatively new (5 years) meet.

Curious what others see as the most impressive course records in NorCal (or by NorCal runners)? I would put German Fernandez's record at Willow Hills (15:03) up there as only Luis Grijalva (15:08.5) and Michael Vernau (15:10.2) are the ONLY times within 30 seconds of Fernandez's on a course that has been used for the SJS meet for years and several invitationals as well. I would also put up Fernandez's 14:24 at Woodward Park. Could Strangio or Nico Young come close to that or even surpass it? I honestly think the best chance might be at Clovis where they will be running head to head in what I expect will be a stacked seeded race (at CIF, Strangio is D1, Young D2, where both will be prohibitive favorites in their respective divisions). Could be one for the ages, but you never know what you get at Woodward, could be a cool, windless morning or a hot, dusty suffer fest. Either way, excited to see how it all plays out.

German Fernandez's Woodward Park time is considered his most outstanding course record. That course hosts two of the most competitive meets in California each season plus has been used for the West Region race and yet he maintains the course record over a decade later. That said, Young and Strangio could give that course record a scare.
