In 2009, the Lowell Invite had to change the course due to a double permit situation at Hellman Hollow, formerly Speedway Meadows, and that course was almost identical to this year's course; the length of the Varsity/JV course was that year and should be this year 2.8 and the F/S course is about 2.07. That means that generally speaking the pace per mile should be about 13 seconds slower than is appearing on XCStats, and to determine a total time equivalent to past years one would add roughly 38 seconds for V/JV, and 27ish for F/S, which means Colin Peattie ran 4:57 pace, and would have run 14:30 on the 2.93 course, which would have been 5th fastest ever. Los Altos Freshman Lauren Soobrian would have run 17:26 on the 2.93 course, about 47 seconds slower, but still fast!

Obviously, the slower the pace the more time you add, but that is also pretty easy to figure out, and is a fun math exercise!

Wouldn't the Frosh/Soph races be closer to 2.1? They only had to go around the tree once at the finish so there was not as much differential there and much of the lost distance in the varsity races appears to be from moving the start line up if you look at the Strava maps. Or did the Frosh/Soph races also have the start line moved up?

Yes, F/S just a bit shorter from not going around the tree. I would say closer to 2.07/2.08 but nothing too drastic. Their starting line remained the same.

Our runners were pretty consistent with 2.08 on their watches for F, S and F/S...though GPS does have its own variability/ accuracy limits...

I agree with the consensus that the the short course was off by .05.(2.08) Therefore the long course was off by .10. (2.83) Because you just double the distance cut off each way. Now was the start line moved up? And by how much? To make the distance 2.80 , it would of had to have be moved up .03 which is 51.8 yards. That is a long way. So in my humble opinion, I concur with Coach McCrystle that the runners ran 2.08 and 2.80. It was still a great season opener xc meet with tough competition.

@ Coach Darling:
Yes, the start line was moved up significantly for the Varsity/JV races:
