And yet, none of the Great Oak runners have been successful in college or beyond. Greedy coaching leads to premature burnout.

So nothing about said athletes and their high school success and opportunity to go to premier colleges due to their high school coach?

Ironically, most of the varsity kids that have graduated from GO are still running and many of them are in the top 7 on their XC teams. Easy to badmouth when you offer up opinion instead of facts...

I've come up and offered everything we do in our program to every coach up there and many have utilized ideas and workouts to improve their teams. I'm not sure I actually qualify as greedy. Sharing and caring maybe. Probably not greedy.

Thanks, Doug. Unfortunately, when a high school coach or any coach for that matter has a lot of success, they become targets and the first shot fired is usually about the success of their athletes in college. They said the same about Joe Newton and he is considered one of the greatest high school coaches in any sport. There are so many factors involved in successful college running that have nothing to do with their high school running experience. As a high school coach, your job is to get your athletes to compete to the best of their ability, have a good experience and perhaps continue to compete in college. Doug has been an exceptional coach and as mentioned has never shied away from sharing what he does with many coaches at countless clinics.
