it was great watching EBAL championships yesterday as it was very exciting. Jena Pianin takes first for the varsity girls with a 17:26 (huge PR) while gapping 2nd place Bayliss by nearly 20 seconds. Overall the AV girls fall just 4 points short to granada, had #3 runner Paige Lommerin ran, AV might have upset. Look to see her at NCS though. On the boys side SRV steam rolls the rest of the field, but there are still many impressive performances from DLS and AV. AV boys still maintain their lead on DLS going into the post season still ranked 1st in NCS Division 1. Overall a great day with many great performances.
Good to see Parker back, and good to see Theo out there supporting AV.
17:26 is an amazing time! If i'm right, I think that Cal High superstar Colleen Lillig ran about the same time on that course. The time and 20 second gap on Bayliss is quite an impressive feat for Pianin. That 3-way battle between Pianin, Novel, and Bayliss has been brewwing for a while. Fun to see how it turned out!
Pianin held the lead from the start and never relinquished it. She ran hard through the whole thing and collapsed momentarily at the finish line. She ran as hard as she could and didn't give anything even when she had a large gap on 2nd place. That's how Prefontaine ran his races. Thats how a champion races. Great to watch!
does anybody know what the conversion from hidden valley to hayward is?
NCS times last year at Hayward were typically 5 to 15 seconds a mile faster than the DFAL championships at Hidden Valley. That was on a wet course at Hayward.
Last year was a strange year bc of the rain. Hidden Valley is usually 30-40 seconds slower than Hayward.
what happened to Trevor Fuhriman of Monte Vista?
Trevor will not be racing the rest of the season.
I saw Trevor at the race and he mentioned he'd had a bout with pneumonia, but I was under the impression he was on the mend. So no NCS/State for him? If not, that truly sucks-he's worked his ass off all season. Best of luck to him, and can't wait to see him in track.
interesting to see that AV girls had a faster team time and average than granada despite taking 2nd place and also without Paige Lommerin. NCS D1 looks like it's going to be an epic showdown.
