For those that didn't notice, Victor Santamaria of Willow Glen was honored by the Central Coast Section as a recipient of 2010 CCS Fall Sports Honor Coaches Award.

From CCS:

Victor Santamaria has been coaching the Boys Cross Country team at Willow Glen High School for the last 10 years. Victor also coaches Track and Field and teaches social studies there. He graduated from Willow Glen in 1985, running track and cross country and contributed to Willow Glen’s winning the 1982 and 1983 CCS Team Championships. Victor also earned All-American status by placing 15th at the National Championships as a senior at WG. He continued running Cross Country in college, becoming captain of the UCLA Cross Country team.

Al Gallegos, Assistant Principal at Willow Glen High School, says of Victor: “Because Victor has high academic standards for his students and athletes, schools all over the US have shown interest in our student athletes. …Parents have always respected the fact that they are not only working with a coach, but a mentor and counselor to our student athletes. I would like to add
that Victor is a cancer survivor and throughout his rough recovery, he was very concerned about his students and their success in and out of the classroom.

Coach Santamaria’s rewards come with the success of his student athletes.” Willow Glen HS Athletic Director Peggy Booth states, “He doesn’t just prepare these athletes for every contest…he prepares these kids for life. He is a mentor and a great role model for our student/athletes. After competitors finish a race they stand near the finish line and cheer teammates and other schools on the finish line. It is truly a remarkable sight to see. I am always in awe of his abilities to motivate these young bodies and minds.”
