Best race of the day no doubt. hutchins ran such a smart race. the crowd was silent when they finished. Nobody knew what happened.
Did he try and pass on the inside? Why is the guy on the inside on the rail?

You are not allowed to pass on the inside on the home stretch. You must maintain your line. If he was going to pass he should have swung wide.
Are there videos from NCS?
Hutchins wasn't on the rail. The photos give the appearance of contact, but there was none. The video shows it clearly.

Hutchins led the whole race from 800 to go. true guts. Hamilton was the one that passed Hutchins (Hutchins had the lead). This is for everyone who thought there was NO chance of Clayton Hutchins winning...
Hutchins didn't win. Hamilton has been running tactical races throughout the qualification process and has allowed athletes to finish within seconds (hundredths of seconds) of him for weeks. Getting to State is a marathon, not a sprint. It was a great race!
I don't think athletes try to win races by .01 seconds to conserve their energy. Hamilton was very fortunate to win. I was one of the people that didn't think Hutchins had a chance to win but it was pretty clear to the those that watched him race on Friday that he was ready for a big effort on Saturday.
Hamilton's plan going in to the race was to try to let the leader get ahead as far as possible while staying in second place with 200 to go, then try to outkick him. Seems like he got the job done. He did it to practice his finish.
I'll call you out on that one ^ He barely won, and it's not like he looked super comfortable coming down the home stretch. You can try to fluff it up as much as you want, but Hamilton struggled to get that win.
i was watching this race next to what appeared to be an o'dowd athlete or alumni. With 250 to go hamilton started to let hutchins get away and it was obvious he was laboring. This guy was shocked. Not once this season has hamilton ever appeared vulnerable, until then. hats off to Hutchins for making it a race,

What losers we all are for speculating on what happened in a race none of us were in. (1) Hamilton won; (2) He's utilized the same strategy throughout the season with similar results (a win); (3) We'll all know how this will shape up in a matter of days. If you read the related articles, Hamilton said he made his kick just in time. Last I checked, it doesn't matter what margin an athlete wins by, as long as there's a win. If you want to recognize Hutchins, fine, no one disputes his efforts. Let it go. This is starting to sound like sour grapes.

Albert, I'm really surprised by your comment thread. What "says it all" about the race was the video (or witnessing it in person). Hamilton is a great kid and doesn't deserve you bashing him. He won-- period. Get over it and move on. Look at all the previous races, Hamilton always allows someone else to lead. It doesn't matter who leads, it matters who wins.
I didn't bash Hamilton at all. I thought it was a great race and there was a lot of sportsmanship after the race. You can read into it whatever you want but I was complimentary of both runners.
