Heard about this on the way to work this morning. This is an egregious violation of the 1st Amendment; it is political correctness run amok. A finger pointing up by the ear! Seriously? That is excessive? What about kids when they cross the finish line with their arms up? Fernandez pointed to the sky and did a victor lap after winning the 3200, as well as Hassay. And the irony of it is this occurred in Texas in the "Bible belt." Other teams should boycott states.
And of course, initial reports were inaccurate. The team made the "point to the sky" gesture AFTER it had been DQ'd for what was deemed "taunting" as it crossed the finish line. You can argue about whether the "taunting" warranted a DQ, but even the team itself agreed that it had nothing to do with religion.
