Karlie Garcia..... WOW. When was the last time a Norcal runner ran that fast at Mt. Sac? Running around 17 or under is an extreme rarity.

Albert Caruana said...

The only 3 NorCal runners to run faster than Garcia's 17:01 are:
Amber Trotter Ukiah 16:16 2001
Julia Stamps Santa Rosa 16:55/16:58 1995/1994
Kristin Gordon Carondelet 16:58 1996

What happened to Parker Deuel??

Anonymous said...

Deuel didn't run. Someone else wore his number.

Former NCS guy said...

which begs the question: "what happened to Parker Deuel?"

Andrew said...

new rankings!!! ;)

Bayliss is the real deal...so glad SRV isn't in D1. A lot of the NCS teams did really well, although not in the incredibly stacked sweeps races. Scratch that, that statement only applies to D1 and D2. D3-5 were very impressive for NCS (Miramonte boys, University girls, Saint Mary's boys, who else?).

Anonymous said...

parker deuel raced in the mariner invitational the week before, the only varsity srv guy in the race...but why wouldn't he go to Mt. Sac?

Albert Caruana said...

Personally, I don't think it is any of our business who runs what and where during the season.

Let's focus on the kids that ran at Mt. SAC and not the ones that were not there.

Anonymous said...

If Deuel really didnt race than it looks like the SRV team will be really tough for the top NCS D1 teams to beat at the only race where they'll all be in the same place. EBAL Championship this Saturday. SRV, Amador, De La Salle, Monte Vista, and even the Granada boys are all very formidable teams. Should lead to an intense battle on a reasonably fast Shadow Cliffs course.

I have a question: Is there any way we can get a completely combined results list from Mt. Sac? Or at least each division combined? I realize it is a ridiculously large order to fill, but if someone knew how to compile that, im sure it would be greatly appreciated by alot of people.

Albert Caruana said...

Hank Lawson was able to compile the list of the top CCS times so I am sure it's possible. I am just not sure how to do it myself.

hank said...

Walt VanZant (Wilcox) actually compiled the CCS results. I do have Fri & Sat results in Excel format so if someone wants to try and identify schools by Section and/or Division, send me an email (hanklaw@ix.netcom.com) and I will email you the excel files that you can then "play" with.

It would be awesome to see compiled CCS and NCS results. If anyone could pull it off that'd be great.

I heard that Parker Duel was part of SRV's homecoming activities on Friday, and the coach 's policy would not let him come down after. Looked at his mariner results-at first looked pretty slow-then noticed it was his 3rd race in 6 days. Are they trying to kill this kid?

Anonymous said...

Hold the phone-if Deuel didn't run, why is he in the results? Even though it wasn't to their advantage, coaches can't just substitute runners, can they?

Albert Caruana said...

Coaches enter their teams at least a week in advance of the meets. Sometimes runners are substituted at the meets for such reasons as injuries. Timers are not always willing or able to do name changes at the meets so you end up with the name of the first runner entered in the meet.

RiceMan said...

Carlmont ran 81:30 if you count the Frosh and Soph races.

Anonymous said...

It seems 7 guys from SRV traveled to Mt Sac and deliver a great performance. Enough about the kid that didn't go...hats off to the 7 who ran!

Albert Caruana said...

Correct on Carlmont. I just went with the times for the Varsity teams.

Amen to the last post.

Carlmont and Bellarmine are gearing up for a great dual at CCS. It will be the race of the day!

Carlmont was kind of off the grid to start the season. Good to see these kids put in the work over the summer and really come through this fall.

Bell won't be pushed at WCAL and Carlmont should cruise in their league as well. Should be pretty even heading into CCS.

Albert Caruana said...

No question that the best teams in CCS reside in Division I this year. It will be a great battle with Carlmont and Bellarmine for the Div. I title. Menlo Atherton and San Benito are also very good teams and would make state in any other division but will have to run out of their minds to make it out of Division I.

Thanks to XCStats for making the MSAC results in a format that us "stats junkies" can play with. The link below is VB for NCS & CCS combined thanks to whoever it was did the NCS teams. Someone want to do the girls, I can do the same.

Hank, thanks for putting that together. It looks good, except that you are missing one of the top 3 Miramonte guys in your team scoring. This would move them up into 2nd I think. Otherwise, this is very useful. Thanks again.

hank said...

I just took the data from the poster above. Send me the time that is missing and I'll plug it in and re-run.

I'm still wondering how a coach lets a high schooler run 3 3 mile races in 6 days.

Peter Brewer said...

For what it's worth, I've had athletes run two races in a day . . . girls and boys. I've also done the Eddie Salazar workout where the kids, with 100% rest, at 40sec/mile over race pace, run 3 x 3 miles. These kids haven't died, burnt out, or slowed down.

I saw Parker run at the Mariner Invite, and he wasn't tearing up the joint, so it didn't appear that he was going all out. Parker has also been known to run all season, then do the J.O. circuit, and head straight into another season of track or cross country. He's tough.

Hank -

It appears that the first two Miramonte runners (Jamie and Dillon) wered entered as Mira with a capital M, while the rest of us were entered as mira with a lowercase m. Xcstats doesn't count the "Mira" runners as part of our team. I think the issue is only of capitalization. None of our runners were left off the results.

I hate to bring this up again, but for all the flack that the new Carlmont coach got a while back, seems like she is doing a great job and has rebuilt the team extremely well.

Mt. Sac slowed a bit this year for the girls. 18:06 was 50th place last year.

Albert Caruana said...

I heard the weather was quite warmer this year resulting in the slower times all across the board.

Anonymous said...

Amador is in NCS. That makes Pianin #2 NCS and Lane #3

Anonymous said...

Yes knew Amador was in NCS, Was in hurry and missed that one. That's what I get for playing when I should be working.

Anonymous said...

I was at Mt. Sac & it was quite warm for the late Friday races, D3 & D4 varsity & sweeps. It was actually quite nice for the D 1 varsity & D1 & D2 sweeps races.

That Amber Trotter time is unbelievable. Has anyone come close to that?

Anonymous said...

Where is luis Luna did he not run either.

Note finished organizing the team times from Mt Sac

Anonymous said...

It was 71 for the afternoon races, that's great for Mt. Sac. That said, last year there actually was a little drizzle.

Anonymous said...

It seemed nice for the morning varsity & sweeps races on Saturday as well. The late D2 varsity races had the hottest temps I think.

Banjo said...

It was pretty warm from midday into the afternoon on both days this year.

And yes, there was some light rain last year on Thursday evening which may have helped with the dust... but the temperatures were definitely cooler.

Anonymous said...

You can't compare Garcia's time to the Julia Stamps-era (just like you can't compare Amber Trotter to that). As much as the Mt. Sac people don't like to acknowledge it, the course was changed and definitely became faster after that.
