Sarah Sumpter (1990-2015) RIP

I just found out that Sarah Sumpter (Healdsburg HS/UC Davis alumni) passed away this morning. Some of you are well aware of her courageous battle with brain cancer which you can see detailed in this flotrack video link and this Davis Enterprise newspaper article link. I also did a mini interview with her following her victory at the Stanford Invitational in 2007 which you find here.

There is a gofundme set up in her name that will take care of current financial costs and much of the money raised will go to programs that were special to Sarah and a scholarship fund in her name.

My condolences to her family and friends. If you have anything you would like to share about Sarah, please do so in the comment section below.

The following was posted by Dave Monti on his Facebook page:
"It was Sarah Sumpter's dream to run the TCS New York City Marathon. Earlier this year, she contacted the NYRR get an elite entry, and we granted it right away. She was using New York as a goal to help her push through her cancer treatments. But her condition worsened, instead. She withdrew from the race a few weeks ago, and her health declined. She died this morning, according to her family. We are so sorry, and honor her with this official bib. Rest in peace, Sarah. You will always be a champion to us."

The following was posted by former Saugus runner, Brandon Jauregui, who has also been battling cancer.
"In 2013 this amazing individual contacted me following my cancer diagnosis. I had never met her before, but her message and incredible story inspired me to never give up. Two and a half years later here I am still fighting. Unfortunately she is not... This morning Sarah Sumpter, called "Stump" by her many fans, lost her five-year battle with brain cancer. She was so young. Words could never explain the impact that one message from Sarah had on my life, but know I read it almost every day. She was such an inspiration to so many people, including me.
