Only 3 under 17 at PAL3 at crystal springs? Very slow times, especially considering the near-perfect conditions.

The PAL meet was on Wednesday and it was WARM.

PAL 3 was on Tuesday, the 24th actually

weather archive:

October 24, 2016
« Previous Day Next Day »
Daily
Actual Average Record
Mean Temperature 63 °F -
Max Temperature 66 °F 73 °F 90 °F (1965)
Min Temperature 60 °F 48 °F 36 °F (1956)

Last time I checked, a high of 66* is NOT warm.

@10:12 , not only is 66* not warm, but it is near-perfect. Especially with the ocean winds breezing on the Crystal Springs hill, you don't want it to get much colder than 63-65*.

Brendan Creeks. Wow! That's determination. It pains me to see runners collapse from dehydration, hyponatremia, oxygen deprivation or whatever else the cause.
I hope he's recovered.

We're all the meets in perfect conditions or was it just PALs

First off 66 is not perfect... from a scientist point of view you are still using energy to cool off your body. But it is as close as you'll get around here. But Wednesday was 95 degrees on the coast in Santa Cruz. It was over 90 in the South Bay. You telling me Belmont was only 66?

I know it was definitely warmer this week. There is no way it was only 66 on Tue, Wed or Thurs at the Crystal Springs course in the afternoon.

I would have pulled Brendan off the course. Risk of injury (falling and hitting his head being a preventable injury in addition to the delay in administering aid) versus the reward of finishing. I don't know of any cross country runners falling and getting head injures, but know some that were taken to hospitals for heat exhaustion. As a coach and a parent, intervention for the safety and welfare of a student and child outweighs the glory associated with winning

They're were such perfect condition. 66 degrees is not hot at all, unless you are consider Celsius - not farhaneit. You guy are talking how there was not 66 degre on Tuesday , but it says a HIGH of 66. Maybe even lower than 66? 65, 64? If so, their were even more good and near perfect condition,

It was not 66. It was 66 degrees on Oct 24, 2016. In other words, that data was from last year, not this year. Max temperature on Oct 24, 2017 was 89 degrees, per Weather Underground.

@10:12 AM - look carefully at the year of the date you looked up: 2016. It was hot Monday through Wednesday this past week in 2017.

I was at the PAL meet 3 and it was 84 degrees for the varsity races. The comments here are completely invalid and incorrect.

Conditions at PAL 3 were not at all perfect. It was very hot. I don't know where that 66 number is coming from, but it was around 90 for the varsity races.

It is supposed to rain this Friday/Saturday. Could this affect the WBAL (fri) or PAL (sat) meets? What would happen if they were cancelled?

Anonymous said...

My understanding is that they won't cancel the league championship races due to CCS bids being at stake. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Coach Tim said...

The meets can't be cancelled, as they are qualifying meets for CCS. They will either be rescheduled or allowed to run in the rain.
