Vernau looks just as impressive as he finished last year and his his eyes clearly focused on a showdown at Stanford with Cooper Teare and Callum Bolger. This guy doesn't shy away from any competition and I think that desire will serve him well going forward. Armco's Grijalva isn't that far behind Vernau, but didn't seem to have anything for him on this day. Thinking Grijalva might be more suited to a faster course. Jesuit's Brendan Jones was a bit off the front two, but gives the Marauders a tough 1-2 along with Ben Holland. The Bella Vista Boys appear to be a strong D2 school, especially if they can develop a 5th man, as their top 4 can compete with just about anybody in NorCal. Jesuit took both the Frosh and Frosh/Soph races, with Freshman Matt Strangio gapping the 2nd place runner by a full 30+ seconds on the 2 mile course.
On the girl's side it is tough to take too much from the race, because neither Castiglioni or the Davis girls were challenged. St. Francis looks to have a young, but pretty strong team, so will be interesting to see how things turn out when they meet.
