Stanford Invitational Girls DMR (Race of the day!)

Picture to the left courtesy of Spencer Allen and of the winning Gunn HS girls team.  The finished in 11:56.68 just outdistancing Davis HS (11:56.90).  Gunn was in the lead after lap 1 through the 400 and 800 legs but Davis made up ground as both Sarah Robinson (Gunn) and Fiona O'Keeffe received the baton at the same time going into the anchor leg.

Here are the splits from the race lap leaders:
76.8, 70.1, 74.9, 65.1, 67.8, 77.0, 68.0, 73.4, 73.9, 71.7.  Both Robinson and O'Keeffe ran 4:47.x for their 1600m. leg.

Was there. And it was a phenomenal race! Seemed like Robinson was simply going to run away from O'Keeffe but could never get a gap, okeeffe passing Robinson at the top of the curve, then Robinson battling back with about 40 meters left. Wow!

4:47 for both girls is incredible for this time of year.

I watched Gunn best Casa Grande's 2010 DMR record at the San Rafael Twilight relays. Today they smashed Casa Grande's Stanford meet record also but by a much larger margin. Hats off to the Davis girls who also smashed the old record. Did Sofia Castiglioni double back after running in the 3,000m?

"Today they smashed Casa Grande's Stanford meet record"

Oak Ridge ran 11:51 at Stanford in 2007 for the meet record.
