If more youth and high school runners followed this or a similar pattern of running throughout their off-season time, they would see an overall fitness upgrade. The only things I would add would be cross train if you can. Biking 3 miles for every one mile run equivalent or swim 1/4 mile for every mile equivalent. Overall body tone, strength and endurance, with a touch of stamina and a dash of speed throughout the summer will provide your coach with a fantastic foundation on which to build your season.
