Castro Valley High cross country and track star Kelsey Santisteban has signed a letter of intent with Cal.
“I visited LMU, USF and Berkeley, and I just liked it the best. I liked the coaches, the team, and the campus was really nice,” Santisteban said. “I just know it’s a really good school and has a really good sports program. I just felt the best while I was there.”
Santisteban visited Cal on the last weekend of January before visiting Loyola Marymount and USF. She narrowed her choices to USF and Cal before picking the Golden Bears.
Last November, Santisteban became the first East Bay girl since 1989 to place in the top five in the California Interscholastic Federation Division I cross country championship race, as she finished fifth in 17 minutes, 30 seconds for the 3.1 mile Woodward Park course in Fresno. The senior also won the North Coast Section Division I cross country championship race in 18:00 for the 3.0 mile Hayward High course and a week earlier was victorious on the same course at the Hayward Area Athletic League championship race (17.49.1).
