What the heck happened to SRV's running program? How does a school go from being a middle-distance powerhouse to nothing in a year? Could it be that they've just been fortunate in getting fast kids out of the USATF club circuit, and now that the Pleasanton club has wound down, their pipeline is dry?

How come they don't recalculate wind assistance in preliminary rounds? For example, if a guy in heat 1 has a wind assistance of +3.0 m/s but a guy in heat 2 has only +0.1 m/s, the guy in heat 2 has a huge disadvantage.

SRV just dominated D1 NCS in cross country this past year...I don't think they've gone to nothing at all. They've always got younger guys coming up the pipeline. Maybe we didn't see it this track season? I'm not sure, I didn't really pay attention to their times this year.

Their XC team loses 4 of their top 7, but I imagine they reload quite well next year.

I'd say the strength of the SRVHS program has always been the depth and development of all of its athletes as opposed to the one or two top athletes they will get every couple of years from the club circuit (who then continue to develop). This suits them during cross country with team scoring and many years keeps them hidden during the end of the year during track championships. This year SRV guys had 8 guys under 4:40, but only 1 under 4:25. They had 13 guys under 11:00, but only 1 under 9:30. So they look out of the picture at the end of track, but watch out during cross country. I'll take 8 guys under 4:40 vs 1 guy at 4:15 come the start of cross country. With this type of depth every year I'd say it is a good sign of top coaching. They've never relied on a "pipeline" to develop their team.

Never a pipeline? Huh. So Reed, Colaco, Hamill, Duel, Holmgren, DeVries, Graves, Bayliss, the Baumanns, and Scott Bauhs didn't run club before they got to SR? Rhetorical question, because they did.
