Sac-Joaquin Section Boy's Team Top "10" Rankings

Courtesy of SJS Fan:
Looks like we may have a three way tie for the top three spots.  Yes, it's that close. Woodcreek beat both Del Campo and Bella Vista at the Hornet Jamboree.  Bella Vista beat Del Campo in a CVC league meet.  Del Campo placed 9th at Woodbridge in the sweepstakes race with Del Campo's  5th runner clocking a 15:35 on the 3 mile course.

This is how I see it and it is very close
1.) Del Campo
2.) Woodcreek
3.) Bella Vista

Any one of these three teams has the potential to win it all and I am basing my predictions on coaching. You have to believe Hall of Fame coach Bob King has the knowledge to and skill to pull it off.

4.) Davis
5.) Rocklin
6.) Pleasant Grove
7.) Vacaville

The rest is just too early to tell but I'm sure some of you have a idea of who else deserves to be mentioned.  Feel free to add to the list above.

I know that D III teams are often overlooked but a Section battle is beginning to brew between 2 teams with excellent coaches and a history of top performers. Placer High and El Dorado in head to head team competition have been separated by mere seconds and with the spread from their 1st - 5th runners being well under 60 seconds. Although not the normal powerhouse size schools, both of these teams have already bettered the team times posted by El Camino the past two years. Maybe not in the Section top 5 but they do deserve some consideration in the top 10.

I would suggest a 10 Ten and maybe a half dozen honorable mentions.

We will add more following the Stanford Invitational this coming Saturday when many of the top individuals and teams compete on the same course.

GHP,
Placer and El Dorado were my 8th - 9th place candidates and it is just too close this early to come up with 10 solid teams, so I left it as a top 7 list. Very good call though you seem to have a firm knowledge of the SJS, Any thoughts on the girls rankings and do you have a top 10 boys or girls ?

Albert... ouch! "I am basing my predictions on coaching"... You couldn't have said, "Based on program history (or something like that)"... haha. We at BV are excited to be in the conversation. After a few decades of anonymity it's nice to be even considered for the top 10. We know that we have a lot of work to do and that we will need to prove that we belong there but we enjoy the role of the underdog! It will be exciting to see how the season progresses. Thanks for all of the great work you do on this site, it's a great resource for coaches and runners alike.

Brett,
The mysterious SJS Fan wrote up and put together the rankings. All in good fun. I think Bob King has earned the kudos he gets for his coaching prowess.

Best of luck to your kids this season.

Thanks for your support of the site.

BV BS,
It was not my intention to question your coaching abilities nor your program, they are both top notch. I have been a fan if the SJS for 15 years and have watched you turn that program into a contender for the section title. Job well done. It's just my opinion and I have seen coach King do it before and I believe he will do it again. Rankings are just for fun and it is great to see a coach representing the SJS on this site. Best of luck to everyone mentioned or not and let's show them at State what the SJS is all about !

Guys... I was just poking a little fun. No hard feelings. The rankings are exactly how I would have placed them as well. Well done!

I know you were. Are you guys running at Stanford?

BV BS said...

We will be there... although I'm not sure who is running where. We put in for D2 but Woodcreek might be in the seeded race... not sure. It should be good racing! We are looking forward to it... it will be our first time at Stanford.

It's all good and I'm so glad to see the conversation on this site. Rankings spark interest and debate for all sides involved and makes this site that much more enjoyable ! The kids will decide it all for us in time but until then let's keep the forum alive and a big thanks to Albert for giving us a place to convey our thoughts.

Since I participate in determining the top NORCAL runners at the end of the year, I keep up on the SJS performances and results...even those that are not posted on Dyestat. UNR has the results of the Nevada Twilight Classic up finally, the SFL does not do a good job of posting their league meet results so you have to search team websites...and the same goes for the Nevada Union results (another SFL team invitational). You would think that a requirement to be listed on a calendar would include providing the results too!!
As far the top 10 girls I've got a few ideas however, some of the top Section girls do not show up in any results yet. Hmmmm. as such, at least for the girls, it may be a bit premature to list the top 10 and leave out known superstars due to no known results yet. After this weekend the rankings should be a little easier.

Making predictions prior to the season is half the fun. I think for girls and girls teams in the SJS this year things are going to be a bit dynamic and changing. Some teams are in the process of moving frosh-soph up to make a varsity team, some "Top" performers from last year have been lagging a bit early in the season, some newcomers are still "unknown", and few injuries have hampered a couple of the better runners. Going to be hard to predict with certainty maybe up until the end of the season - and so I say take a shot now and then everyone can see how it turns out at sections.

OK Here is my best/worst shot at the top Female runners in the SJS Section. I haven’t seen any results on Clare Carrol from Vista Del Lago yet this year but, last year she was the class of the Section at State Meet. It’s Great to see Karlie Garcia back and picking up where she left off. Anyone could sway me on moving any of these fine talents up or down but, these young talents well represent the best of the Section:

1. Clare Carrol Vista Del Lago
2. Karlie Garcia Oakmont
3. Madeleine Ankhelyi Vista Del Lago
4. Maxine Goyette Oakridge
5. Karina Nunes Woodcreek
6. Sara Lack Bella Vista
7. Neysa Mains El Camino
8. Jerrian Wells Pleasant Grove
9. Katie Mersereau Granite Bay
10. Becky Hobby Hugheson

It is MUCH easier to see what others think than to put down your own thoughts.

I think that is a good list. I really appreciate you doing that. Thanks. As I said - I think things are going to be dynamic this year although I think your top 3 are pretty spot on.

GHP,
You nailed it, great list. Is has been a challenge to find the results of any meet especially league meets. One would think that meet managers would want results up immeaditly in order to promote their meets ... Oh well, guess we just wait. As GHP said it is very easy to critique someboby elses list and rather hard to do your own. Fantastic to see the SJS represented here let's keep it up !
