I would love to hear input from those of you that visit my site in regards to the best rivalries in Cross Country and Track and Field. Currently, I am sure we could come up with a few good rivalries but what about from past decades. What were some of the best rivalries in both sports? Individual rivalries? Team rivalries? What makes a good rivalry? Are there any good rivalries that we should watch for in the upcoming Track and Field season?
Thanks in advance for your help with this.

I would say Bell vs SF is a good XC rivalry over the last few years and will be for a few more to come. They are bitter league rivals but because they don’t face each other at CCS, the better recent rivalry has been SF vs Willow Glen. Let’s hope this one continues for a long time.
St. Francis girls vs. any team coached by Craig Lee.
Aptos-SLV...girls XC
The rivalry of Vernau (Davis & Stanford) vs Grivalja (Armijo & NAU) continue from high school into college.
Grivalja is on a different level so far at the college level.
How about coaching rivals? And what coaches really really hate each other?
I would agree with post 10:12. There has been some great battles on the track and XC courses, team wise and individually between Aptos and SLV girls over the years. The most important thing, a lot of respect for each other as athletes and coaches.
