Cooper came so close (4:01) to breaking 4 minutes! If he had taken the first 200 a bit more reasonably (I had him somewhere around 27 seconds) he might have been able to pull it off. Stoked to see if he can get there in a post-season invitational.
Cooper's 4 minute mile attempt: https://youtu.be/7wrfNutx5RA
4:01.29 Fantastic individual effort. Cooper did have a rabbit who dropped out after the 2nd lap, but nobody was within 40 yards of him after that. Good field with Griv and Vernau but Cooper class of the field. Still faster than last week though, as it converts to a sub-4 1600.
Anybody have an in with the Serra coaches who can convince them to schedule their meet in the Stanford slot so teams can do both the Crystal and Clovis meets this year? If they don't, the better teams will go to Clovis over crystal sine CCS is at Toro this year.
Albert, how about a pinned thread through the summer so coaches and XC meet administrators can discuss schedule changes needed to get the best teams together at least a few times this coming season? With the Stanford meet likely going away for good, we need to get everyone on the same page for the sake of the kids and good competition. A meet at Crystal, one of the best XC venues in the country, that is properly scheduled, could take over as the premier event in NorCal. It could attract teams from across the US like MtSac does.
@8:56 Good idea. Stanford has to be replaced with another Big meet in the Bay Area. If Crystal can't support it and no local golf course can be used, the course at Sunnyvale Baylands can be modified for a great 5k track without all the loops. BTW - I think CS would be an incredible draw from the rest of the state and beyond. The parking issues can be worked out by mandatory shuttles from satellite lots at local college and HS's. We need someone to step up to get this done ASAP!
The best way to get something to replace Stanford this year would be to combine the Bronco Invite (run by Santa Clara University) with a HS event. It could be moved up 2 weeks so as not to conflict with other events. I'm sure a local HS would partner up to take some of the burden and money from the event.
