Why is Granada competing without #1 runner? And if so, are they still the #1 Nor Cal team?
She was hurt before the EBAL championship final and was ruled out of the rest of the season.
D4 boys individual, King City is in CCS
D2 Boys Individual is pretty close. Between Kumar, Miller and Surapaneni, de Leon has pretty significant competition. Also, is Granite Bay Division II or I? They raced in Division II but all the rankings have Ritter and Lockwood in Div. I? If so, they are a major shout as well.
Granite Bay is in Division II this year. Their top 2 boys, Jake Ritter (especially) and Tre Lockwood will both be in the hunt for a top 10 finish.
10 of the top 20 ranked boys in the DII race come from NorCal this year. Not only are the NorCal runners catching up to the SS, in many cases the overall quality of the individuals is better. The team rankings are a different story, for now.
I had the same comments on Granite Bay, I think either Ritter or Lockwood could be top finishing NorCal runner. In D1 I would not be shocked to see 3 NorCal boys on the podium. Grijalva and Vernau have been the class of D1 and Beaudoin-Rousseau could be the best of the rest on a good day. In D2 girls I think it is Beitia's year and with a two week rest between sections and state, should come back strong. Super frosh Isbella Fauria of St. Francis had a bad day at sections, but I have seen her run too many times over the years to think she will be kept down. I would be surprised if she didn't challenge for a podium spot. If St. Francis (Sacramento) has a good day, they could finish as high as 4th and will have everybody back.
Regarding the team and individual comparison between NorCal and SoCal. In almost every case the SoCal (particularly Southern Section) teams have greater attendance than their NorCal counterparts. So we (NorCal) will continue to have some of the top individual runners, but will also have a hard time competing with the depth (the name of the game in Cross Country) with Southern California counterparts.
Someday it would be nice to see a Nor Cal State championships, then meet up with So Cals best at Footlocker. I know, wishful thinking, it will never happen.
You do know in the early eighties there was a NorCal championship before the state meet existed
