Lotsa out of state athletes. I realize because of their entrance requirement ..but it also shows they have lots of money to get these athletes.
FYI...Stanford has no more track scholarship dollars than any other D1 school. 18 scholarships for the women's team and 12.8 for the men's team per the NCAA.
For most (including athletes), Stanford's tuition is based on what the family can afford on a sliding scale: based on their tax return, current earnings and assets available for tuition. Many minor sport athletes (such as track) get little track scholarship dollars up front. They have to earn more money based on their Pac-12 conference, regional and championship performances. There are also academic scholarships dollars as well which is outside of the track money, but very hard to qualify for (usually need a 4.2 or higher). I do know, that as of 2-3 years ago, Stanford will not even consider a minor sport athlete for admission with a GPA below 3.5 and and SAT below 1950.
Congrats to all these kids and best of luck at the next level. They earned their way into Stanford.
Not a very strong class on the boys side. Looks like the team from across the Bay got a better class.
Best Nor Cal Alumni: Justine Fedronic or Jen Bergman?
These two have dualed since HS and now Fedronic is third in the 800!
Anonymous poster 8:09.
Across Bay..like who?
umm...maybe Cal?
Cal's mens incoming class looks way better then what Stanford got.
Will UCLA be the class of PAC 12? Coming off 13th at Nats last year it is strange saying that considering how they have traditionally destroyed talent.
Bit time college coaches don't have time to develop talent, so I get it. They need results now so train like a pro or get injured and never run again.
But they have the brand name I guess.
Who are some of the Cal guys excluding the football players because Cal's football players have not run track in the past ie. Best, Smith, and Desa.
Known Cal recruits:
24 Yohaness Estifanos
1 Khalfani Muhammad
23 Takkarist McKinley
17 Josh Lewis
11 Matthew Esparza DIS 169-10 Nope
14 Trent Brendel 1600 4:13.94 Nope
women
2 Nijae Jones 800 2:11.21 Qualified
others??
I think that McKinley is on a football scholarship, not track.
Eduardo Garibay is planning on walking on at Cal. He's an excellent 1600 m runner. He ran a 4:16 at CCS finals.
So is state 100/200 champ K.Muhammad who will be on FB scholarship.
CAL - Where great track talent goes to be average!
Looks like future teammates Trent Brendel and Eduardo Garibay will be racing each other tomorrow in the 1600. Woulda been cool if Yohaness Estifanoss was also in the race. 3 future Bears running on the Cal Track.
wow the Golden west has changed big time. It use to be "The" end of the year meet where athletes from across the country would attend especially those speedsters from Texas. There are some nice state individuals but now lots of people who just want to get a workout in and now they have senior races too...
