Thanks to Track and Field News, a great look back at all the first time American sub 4 minute milers. To date, there have been 366. The list has definitely grown in the past few years as you will see. See if you can find the runners who have some sort of Northern California connection.

Verzbicas?
It doesn't look like they have the five sub 4 minute high schoolers listed. I will find out why.
U.S. citizens only. Verzbicas is not yet a U.S. citizen. Note that Lagat's entry is not his first sub-4, but his first sub-4 as a U.S. citizen.
Only one from our neck of the woods I know of is 111. Dan Aldridge (Sub-4 TC)3:59.9 San José April 11
He went on to run 3:58.2 for Athletics West (Petaluma HS ’75, Santa Rosa JC ’77) at Eugene, OR 5/81
Our fastest girl is 4:31.50i Sara Bei Hall, Asics (Montgomery HS ‘01) at Millrose Games 1/29/10
Jim Crowhurst
Good catch on Verzbicas.
The other 4 sub. 4 minute milers are actually listed.
Jim Ryun 1964
Tim Danielson 1966
Marty Liquori 1967
Alan Webb 2001

Matt Giusto - San Mateo
Steve Sherer - Los Gatos Coach
Only ones from CCS that I could find.
