1110 enrollment moves us up to D3... I wonder how big Southern Section D3 schools are? ;)

Gus, at least 2x but the DI and DII are more like 3x. The state meet is not fair as long as CIF puts it's head in the LA sand.

D1 is at least competitive now instead of only 1-2 decent teams. D3 got more competitive as well thanks to SI.

Why is CCS stuck at 500 and under for D5? The CIF rule is 600. Dropping 3 teams into D5 would make it more competitive (15+ schools in that division can't field a complete team) as well as drop some bubble teams like NMC in a lower division.

DII just opened up for a SF repeat at CCS. Both Los Gatos and SI are moving out in different directions. Can Homestead challenge for DI?

Why does the CCS use schools that don't field cross country teams in its dividing up into to divisions? I don't understand why Division V schools have less schools to compete against for a CCS championship than the other four divisions where the vast majority of the schools in those divisions at least field a team.

I felt like this year saw some great rivalries form this year and just like that they're over. CCS has issues flip flopping every year. It would be great to see SI, Willow Glen, Saint Francis, Bell, etc. all duke it out D1 in a competitive equity format.

Gus,
What about the fact that this year NMC was more than twice the size of the smallest Division 4 teams in CCS?

The divisional breakdowns for each section (outside of the SS) has been a thorny issue for a long time. Unfortunately the SS is so big that other sections can't match up with them size wise. They end up balancing their own divisions to attempt to have 10 competitive races at their own final. What happens after that at the state meet is not their concern even though it does effect how many of their own teams qualify to the state meet.

I believe the change is going to have to come from the state level. A couple of options are to reshuffle the teams after section or adding a 6th division. Unfortunately I don't see this happening anytime soon.

If the CCS wants to do better at state, they should create divisions like this: top team to D1, second to D2, third D3, fourth D4, 5th D1.... and so on. All teams at 600 or under to D5 automatically. CCS will be boring but the teams will do better at state, especially in D2, D3, D4.

and there you have it. Right now the section races are quite competitive. What happens at state is secondary to the section meets.

And then should it not follow that Norcal teams and coaches try to peak for sectionals and not state? Again, I have heard that a lot on this site but I'm not getting a what-what from the peeps on this one.

I think 10:53 has it right if the CCS wants to act more like the CS and SS or are we still trying to have the sectional meet be more competitive than the state meet?
