Race of the day has to be the boys 1600.
Accidently deleted the following comment.
"The biggest favorite out of the entries definitely has to be John Lester in the Men's 800."
Lester in the 800, after posting the fastest 800 in the state last year is the prohibitive favorite. I would put Peattie (2nd in the state meet as a sophomore) as every bit as much the favorite in the 1,600, though it looks like Ajani Salcido coming off an impressive anchor leg of Jesuit's DMR is ready to make his run at a sombrero.
This is my watchlist:
G1600 - Allen, Nordenholz, Elkins (Soobrian & Lambert are scratches now)
B1600 - Peattie & Toppers (Salcido isn't listed)
G800 - Cairns, Joaquin & Kennedy (Lambert scratch)
B800 - LESTER
G3200 - Allen, McClain & Nordenholz
B3200 - STACKED!!! Chambers, Curulla, Salcido, Peattie & Toppers
It'll be FUN!!!
Boys 3200 is gotta be Curulla with the W stop playin
I still have Salcido on my list for the 1600. If he is only running the 3200, then he would be my favorite in that event.
I think everyone is sleeping on Winter in the 3200, he ran a 9:13 solo last month and he came in second in the 1600 at Buchanan this past weekend
I will post my meet preview link above but I am definitely not sleeping on Daniel Winter. He is really good as was his older brother.
Sam Roth will be in the mix in the 3200. He is on a different level than he was last Fall.
An interesting subplot in the 1600 will be the battle between the super sophomores Tyler Hunt and Alex Lamoureux, both from DAL. Tyler has run a 4:21 but should be able to join Alex in breaking 4:20. Also, its a shame that Campolindo sophomore Alex Lodewick will not be mixing it with them.
When looking at sophomores in the 1,600 keep an eye on Jaoob Swanson from Jesuit. He gets over shadowed by Salcido and Chambers, but I could see him around that 4:20 mark as well. I'm already packing up to head down a little bit later, looking forward to see all the athletes throw down.
