From everything I’m hearing from my principal we aren’t coming back this semester. At least our district won’t be starting on time. That said I always ran because I loved it. I didn’t need races or teammates, though those are great and help you be your best, it was never the WHY I ran. I like being out in nature, I like the feeling of being fit. If you’re reading this the races may be canceled or postponed but running is free. Call up a friend in your social circle, be safe, and enjoy the outdoors!
Totally agree. Thanks for chiming in first.
I run to race and get PR's, period. I don't run just for the fun of it. I'm sure MANY athletes are in the same boat and are devastated that everything is being taken from them.
I started this pandemic well over my fighting weight and hadn't run a step in about 18 months. Started biking, then biking with some strenuous hiking, then mostly strenuous hiking and low behold during one of my recent hikes I thought to myself, "I could run a little just to see how I do". Now I'm running more than hiking and found the joy in it again. And I am well below where I started weight wise. Also, I can tell my athletes if I can do it, so can they.
Thanks for chiming in Carl. That's great.
I think it’s important to have an internal love for running. I’ve always coached the importance of being a lifelong runner. Yes we strive to compete and run personal bests but one day we get old an PRs are a lot harder to come by.
I think this is a huge opportunity to modernize education and I’ll be very surprised if we go back to the way it was. For most schools were over crowded, sources of bullying and emotional abuse. I could easily see high schools move to a permanent hybrid model and the very least a 4 day model like they have in much of Nevada and Colorado. Friday’s can be online learning and sports days.
Change is coming.
