Having Northern California runners with the top boys and girls times at the State Meet was pretty sweet (Anderson and Chamberlain). Gabriel Peterson of Healdsburg being the top California finisher at Foot Locker and Anderson winning NXN (Strangio finishing 8th as well).

The Camp fire...how one singular outside event can have such a major impact across the state on not only the runners, but the coaches, families, schools, conferences and sections. Hope all sections have lessons learned and are taking action to handle potential future events.

Yes and yes.

What else stands out to you when it comes to looking back at this past XC season?

I cover SJS, so my comments will skew towards that section: Seeing Kellen Steplight qualify for state and being the fastest Northern California boy there. The return of Isabella Fauria, who was off for a year and half before coming back to lead her St. Francis team and get on the podium at state. The rise of Riley Chamberlain, whose only loss prior to NXN was at Clovis to Tori Gaitan, whose time she bested at state. Bellarmine soph Colin Peattie running with the big boys at Stanford and proving it was no fluke with a strong finish at state. Ponderosa frosh Natalie Wieland put up a great debut year that hardly anyone noticed because of the large shadow of Chamberlain. Nevada Union's Garrett Gough throwing down the fastest time of the day at SJS sections and finding him to be mature beyond his years when talking after the race. West Point would be getting a good one in him. Matt Strangio calling his shot at state and going out and getting it done. And a more relaxed and confident Liam Anderson taking down the best the U.S. had to offer in winning NXN in a course record time. The future is bright for NorCal Cross Country.

Thanks a lot, Dan. Lots of good stuff out of the SJS.

I think that the Chico boys showing up to help the young man from Paradise qualify for State was the biggest highlight (and that isn't even the area that I cover.

Kellen wasnt the fastest norcal runner at state meet. Did you mean fastest frosh?? He is going to be really good.
