All 12 of the 1600 finalists at CCS have PR's under 4:20. Most of the states in our great nation don't have 12 guys total under 4:20. I realize that the population of the CCS is close to some of the smaller states but it does show you how difficult it is to get to the state meet.
There have been years in the past where sub 4:20 made state. Now, it gets you in the final.
I cannot recall a state meet in the last several years where it's anyone's race for both the 16 and the 32.
Liam 8:52, third at NXN, has to be the favorite.
If Liam was only doing the 3200, he would be the clear favorite in that race. He ran his best time this year at Arcadia but didn't double back. Last year, he doubled at both NCS and state and I am assuming he will do the same this year. He is certainly capable of winning both races but we will see.
You can watch Liams last 1600 here

In the CCS, no doublers in the 800/1600/3200 have dropped their “weaker” race. That seems unusual, especially the 800/1600 doubles since they are scheduled to be only 1:12 apart. Is this a team points play or an insurance policy to make it to state?
Thanks for the Liam video. Look forward to watching it.
In regards to distance runners running multiple races, I think a lot of them have doubled all year and that's what they do. The Santa Cruz girls are tripling and quadrupling for team points. They will probably finish 2nd behind the Silver Creek girls.
Thanks for the CCS preview. It looks to me that there are 5 guys who could run the at-large time in the 1600m. It will be interesting to see if the group pushes the pace or if it turns into a strategic race, which would be favored by the guys who are also running the 800.
to @6:54am on May 23: Shyam Kumar of Saint Francis and Meika B-R of Bell both dropped the 1600 to focus on the 3200. Both qualified out of WCAL in the 1600 with impressive at-large times, but didn't run it at the CCS trials. Don't know about runners from the other leagues.
@11:13 who are the 5 that you could see running the at-large time?
Will there be a preview for the NCS MOC meet?
It looks like it will be cold and maybe even rainy in Gilroy tonight. Any chance we could move the CCS finals to somewhere warmer? Just saying.
Good luck to everyone today!!!
