I only have 10 pages of quotes. Here's one of my favorites:
"The marathon is like a bullfight. There are two ways to kill a bull, for instance. There is the easy way, for one. But all the great matadors end up either dead or mauled because for them killing the bull is not nearly as important as how they kill the bull. They always approach the bull at the greatest risk to themselves, and I admire that. In the marathon, likewise, there are two ways to win.
"There’s the easy way if all you care about is winning. You hang back and risk nothing. Then kick and try to nip the leaders at the end. Or you can push, challenge the others, make it an exciting race, risking everything.
"Maybe you lose, but as for me, I’d rather run a gutsy race, pushing all the way and lose, then run a conservative, easy race only for a win."
-Alberto Salazar
Though referring to a marathon, it can apply to any distance or mid-distance race, and I wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion.
"The older I get, the Faster I was."
I am not sure who to attribute this quote to but, I have been using it with pure joy for decades!!
"Cross Country — Finally, a practical use for golf courses."

"Some people don’t have the guts for distance racing. The polite term for them is sprinters."

"It’s rude to count people as you pass them. Out loud."

"I think people can handle 150 to 200 miles a week. But something has to give somewhere. If he’s a student, how’s he going to study? He may be at the age of chasing and courtship, and that’s an important form of sport and recreation, too."

"Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare."

Enough for the day.
“Fair day at the Nor-Cal Champs-got home after 3:00am, long day for the old fat boy. I'll have to say I saw one of the best distance races of my career last night. My girl Bethany went toe to toe with the Fresno girl. Shoulder to shoulder exchanging the lead briefly a few times-after 24 and 1/4 laps Bethany Rasmussen put the hammer down but the Fresno girl hangs on. Bethany wins in 39:00.49. Tanemy of Fresno second in 39:02.92, one heck of a race. 5 min. after the race I gave Bethany a big hug and she was shaking and saying:
“That hurt.” All I could say was, “When you run hard, it should hurt when you’re done.” She is one tough rascal!! Two time Nor -Cal 10k Champion. Amen” – Coach Peter Giachetti – 2011 Nor Cal Championships
