Top 10 NorCal Cross Country Teams/Individuals (Boys and Girls)

Now that we have had a few meets/invitationals, it's time to post the NorCal top 10 teams and individuals. I will get this completed sometime this week so for right now, I am open for discussion in the comment area below. Who do you feel belongs on the following lists along with the already posted teams and individuals? Who are the top teams and individuals in the Sac-Joaquin Section? Who are the teams that will contend at the section and state levels from CCS and NCS?

If any coaches would like to be included in a bi-weekly coach's panel to update the following NorCal rankings, please let me know if you are interested by emailing me at albertjcaruana@gmail.com.

Lastly, feel free to share this site with your runners and parents. If you have any ideas on what else would be beneficial to the NorCal HS running community on this site, please let me know by email as well.

The Whitney boys out of the SJS crushed it at Toro last Saturday and should be included in your list.

The Whitney boys are the best team in norcal. they have depth and top end guys. They WILL win a section title and be a top 5 team at state in D2.

D2 at state is going to be incredibly deep...I agree Whitney is very strong, but I have to go with Granada as the number one team in NorCal...they were incredible at a stacked Lowell Invite and have to be one of the deepest teams I have ever seen...check out their JV team runner times!!!!!!! THAT is depth!

I have to agree with Patrick here regarding Granada. They seem to shine every year at Lowell but this year, they had 6 guys in the JV race at 15:00 or faster with their fastest runner at 14:32!

I know the course was shorter and faster this year but their JV would have won the first boy's varsity race.

The problem for Granada this year is that Newbury Park is back in Division II so realistically they will aiming for 2nd place at the state meet.

Wait until this weekend...There's Woodbridge & DLS and we'll see where teams stand...I already can see some mistakes on the rankings already but not on the top Granada is legit and so is Campolindo that's why they were State top 10 list pre-season...Like Coach Patrick said, Granada was very deep...

Good luck to everyone & let's go NORCAL HS XC!!!

The Montgomery girls team would be a contender this year for Division III if they could find a reliable fifth. Their top four girls were 1,4,15,24 in their race at Lowell, and they were 1,3,5,6 at the Rancho Cotate Invitational on August 26.

Feel free to note the mistakes that were made on the teams mentioned already. It's very early in the season and the teams I posted were mentioned pre-season by some publications. As you said, we will know more after this week with teams hopefully fielding full lineups again.

Individuals: Sean Morello and the Pretre brothers for sure.

For girls, sophomore Sienna Faidi of Convent & Stuart Hall. At Lowell Invitational on Saturday, she was 5th among all 345 varsity girls (combining both races). At the Jim Tracy Challenge yesterday, she was 1st, 16 seconds ahead of Lick-Wilmerding's Amelie Maltz (#9 finisher at the Div V state meet last year).

She will definitely be one of the top runners in the state at the Division V level.

Thank you all for all the comments. Keep them coming.

Andy Richards from Dougherty Valley should be in the mix - 14:35 3 mile solo run in scrimmage with Cal/De La Salle and 4th fastest at Lowell with 13:27

Of the runners/teams I've seen early this season, the following have impressed:
Girls: Amaya Aramini (Bishop Manogue), Katie Kopec (Whitney), Ashlyn Boothby (Scotts Valley), Louisa McNatt (McClatchy), Brooke Butler (Oak Ridge), Carly Foster (Granite Bay), Norah Dulaney (Davis)
Girls Teams:Oak Ridge, Granite Bay, Chico. St. Francis (Sacramento)
Boys: Nathan Short (Folsom), Jacob Moffett (St. Mary's Stockton), Devin Pereira (Rocklin), Ryan Mitchell (Davis), Andrew Burr (Sacramento Country Day)
Boys Teams: Whitney, Davis, Jesuit,

Boys individual: Eli Fitchen-Young of Santa Cruz
Girls: Ashlyn Boothby Scotts Valley
Keep an eye on the Scotts Valley Boys team as well. Also Scotts Vally Girls...they have yet to run their full top 5.

Albert Caruana said...

All good additions. Eli Fitchen=Young is a super talented sophomore who has already dropped a really fast time at Toro Park. Scotts Valley was a double section champion last year and I think they have a little more coming back on the girls side but I am sure will be quite competitive again on the boys side as well.

Think Mateo Malko-Allen of SMB won the 2022 Arcadia seeded mile but unfortunately came down with Covid prior to the state meet. Think he would be someone looking to redeem himself. Go Panthers!

Thanks for doing this. Always appreciate some local coverage.

From what I was able to gather, it looks like Julian Doak of Placer High School ran the fastest boys time at Woodbridge last night with a 14.46 finish and Amiya Aramani had the 2nd fastest girls time at 17:02. Tonight those marks will go down when they get in to the rated and sweepstakes races, but both are outstanding times, even on that infamously flat course.

Just since haven't seen them mentioned yet: On the girls side, Seelah Kittlestrom will give Shea V. and Ellie B. a run for their money—she did 12:01 at the Viking Opener today (a hilly morning 2 mile). Also strong finishes by Athena Ryan, Amrie Lacefield, Amelie Maltz, and Siena Brunetti. On the boys side, Jude Devries and Tiernan Colby should be strong contenders—Tiernan first last night in his race at Woodbridge, and Jude Devries only a second off the all-time course record at Viking today. And btw, it is going to be a blast to see Hanne and Sadie face off for the first time next week in Oregon.

Lodi's girls team should probably end up on those rankings somewhere.
