why are the final splits for the boys 1600 heat 4 about 2 seconds faster than the official time? Is that just an error?

@8:11. Yes, splits are off. Looks like the error is on the first lap, which wasn't as fast as listed.

good evening Albert. I hope all is well. Whitney High School hosted our 16th SacTown Races FroshSoph meet last Wed, April 7th. It went really well with 13 teams! Everyone was super excited to compete and our juniors and seniors did a great job of running the meet. anyway, here are the results. https://ca.milesplit.com/meets/419130-sactown-races-2021/results#.YHZ3I69Kg2w

With all these meets going on around here, it is shame the North Coast Section cancelled the MOC so early.

Seems like they could have waited to make that decision.

Does anybody have any information on the DAL Meet being held Saturday at Campolindo. It looks like some of the best NorCal boys distance talent will be there with Bellarmine, Amador Valley and Jesuit (Topper, Peatty, Topper, Lester,Salcido) among the attendees in a meet that is focused on 1,600s and the DMR. Also looks like with the covid restrictions loosening, the second Dublin Socially Distanced Fiesta will be much larger than the first one with some really competitive "Sombrero Heats"

My AD is convinced we need to run athletes in every other lane per the CIF guidelines for safe return. Also need to disinfect the blocks after each race. Does anyone have a link if new guidelines. I do NOT want to go through this.

Dan, here is the info for the Dublin Distance Fiesta

I believe the teams you mentioned will be at Campolindo this Saturday and it should be a great meet especially on the distance side.

CIF Guidelines..page 29.
https://cifstate.org/covid-19/All_Sports_Guidelines.pdf

Sprint, Hurdle, relay events run entirely in lanes, may use every other lane to assist with distancing.

Blocks should be disinfected after each heat/race.

Note: Block sanitation is pre-the latest CDC guidelines update on surface decontamination.

I officiate High School Football...Ask your AD if I should be dipping the ball in a bucket of bleach between each play (or having the QB do it after he gets the snap) and throwing a flag every time a player comes closer than 6 feet to his opponent?

I brought up the football thing. That didn’t work as apparently each school has their own ball that is disinfected and rotated in. But I was on the sideline last week an there is no real protocols being followed. It’s a free for all. I also brought up this was based on the old guidelines but the response was CIF hasn’t released new ones so they are still in effect. Don’t know why my butts getting busted while indoor sports & football is happening. Makes me not want to coach.

I’m thinking of putting disinfectant wipes out if kids want them. But this is insane. I’m just wondering cuz I see these invites with 10+ schools and I’m wondering if there’s anything official to not have to do this.

@albert Or reverse their decision...not that that will happen.

The guidelines for covid contact close contacts tracing are for any individual within 6 feet of an infected person for a total of 15 minutes or more of laboratory-confirmed or probable COVID-19 patients.

So maybe that happens if they're running closely for a very slow 3200m???

Sorry the AD is defending football and giving you guidelines that are way beyond what Football does. I'm officiating several games per week at different schools. It's a free for all as you say. Each team always has had their own ball (because the QB likes a certain grip) but they are not disinfected during the games and are handled by dozens of people throughout the game. The players don't wear masks (during the game, while on sidelines nor during warmup) and are literally piled on top of each other for 2 hours. The funny part is during the pregame meeting we used to have all 5 Officials and upto 8 captains in the center for the coin flip..now just 2 officials and 2 captains for social distancing...then 30 seconds later 22 Players and 5 officials are in a pile after the first play. I'm fine with all of that, but don't like the double standard that you all have to deal with.

Looking for clarification I am understanding there is no North Coast section meet of Champions this year but there is going to be a state meet in late June is that correct?

Here is the issue...

Many districts withdrew from leagues and allowed competition only within their districts. Some, such as Santa Cruz County, made three separate seasons and allowed only competition within their county. This means leagues no longer exist. This means per bylaws there is no way to qualify for a section meet and in turn no way to qualify for state. Perhaps some leagues, mostly private, could hold a league meet. Qualify to CCS and make state. But 10-ish schools is not CCS. State will certainly be watered down.

As of now NCS has no way to make the state meet. But neither do most sections.

Another issue is many school districts are unlikely to approve travel. They are being pushed to return to in person learning, this is the last thing administrators want to deal with. Trust me... they want the school year to end and begin planning for the fall.

Could they make section meets qualify by time or ranking bypassing league? Not without rewriting the bylaws effectively making new precedent in qualifying, something they historically have been very unwilling to do.

Carl said...

Oh they could make it work if they wanted. With technology, they could accept only FAT times and rank the times take top 8 for a 1 day meet. Looking at the schedules around the area, there are plenty of events happening with FAT timing. The committee could meet and make a decision just for this year just like they did for XC during the fire/smoke season.

I don’t believe any section qualifies on a time based system. The section meet & state championship is not an invitational, it is a “state” meet with representatives from each section through qualification.

Not to mention if they did accept performance qualifiers you would need every sprint & horizontal jump to have a wind gauge. Every throwing implement to be weighed. That’s not happening and disqualifies the idea of a performance based meet.
