Cal was the better meet. The high school highlight had to be Nate Esparza's 65 foot 9 inch shot put and 173 foot 2 inch discus, but Logan Spodobslski's 1:59 along with Ivan Giron-Burnham and Trevor Heney's sub 50 and sub 23 clockings in the 400 and 200 are really good for this time of year. Nathan Hardacre went 21-4.25 in the long jump. Salem Bouhassoum recorded a nice double in the 1500 and 3200 (4:05.95 and 9:41.73).
For the girls, Riley Bowen ran 4:43.08 on her own. Dylan Kolon's 57.31 is really good for this time of year and Hannah Hall's 130 foot 6 inch discus throw and 40 foot 9 inch shot put is also a great set of pre-season marks.
Also, lots of NorCal alums competing well (Michael Wang, Karstent Wethington, and Noel Frazier all picked up wins).
Did I miss anything good?
I'd agree with everything @11:26, except the 4:05.95/9:41.73 double; that converts to only 4:24.03/10:24.49 1600/3200, which is good but not really 'great', especially since he was running with people.
The 2nd distance run was indeed a 3200 and not 3000.
A 4:05 -1500 and a 9:41 -3200 double is not mind blowing but for this time of year at an all comers is pretty legit. Plenty of time to get in shape and post some much faster marks as the season progresses.
Is it time to start an official CIF indoor season? The east and Midwest kids are getting a jump on the track season and all our kids are doing is running long in the rain.
What wrong w/ just building a base 5:53. I think that its better to regroup after xc and take some more time into the outdoor season.
I definitely change my earlier post...I thought the 9:41 was a 3K..impressive pre-season time!
So, that is a No on creating a competitive indoor season?
If you want to compete in the winter, there are plenty of races to attend just in Northern California alone. If you want to travel, there are plenty of those as well.
How can these athletes compete if they're not allowed to be coached because of section rules?
Same as a road race. You show up, pay the entry and run.
@8:15. I doubt their high school coach is involved at the meet. CCS's Official first practice is Feb 1st.
Club coaches only at all-comers.
