i guess the reason why there are so many track and fielders is because of the number of different events involved in it...i skimmed the pdf but im not sure if they took out the number of kids who did more than one sport. someone who did soccer in the winter could've done track in the spring and that shouldn't be considered as "two people". The immense popularity in track especially in Southern Section due to all the successes probably contributed, i would guess, at least 50% if not 60% of the track and field data shown. but that's just an assumption.
