Feel free to leave a comment below on many outstanding efforts at yesterday's meet. Biggest surprise? Most outstanding performance?

Time for the CIF to homogonize divisions across the state. They allow each section to determine thier own 5 divisions so that when you get to the State Meet, there are large disparities in enrollment. Schools with 2000 are competing against schools with over 3000. You can see in the team podium finishes. Take out the private schools and there are not a lot of Nor Cal schools on the podium. Make it more fair even if it means adding divisions. Football does it, why can't cross country?
Most sections have adjusted their divisions, allowing their teams to compete more fairly at the state meet. There is a movement to add one more division to the state. We will see if that happens in the next year or two. I think divisions based on school enrollment is the fairest way to go from seeing what other sports have with competitive equity.
I agree "some" sections have. The SJS has not. They throw all schools into a pile based on enrollment then create divisions based on percentage. So top 20% of enrollment goes D1...next 25% goes D2, and so on. The divisions don't even come out until sometime in August usually. They should add a division and maybe 2. Just seems more fair if you going to call it say D2 State Championship, their be a more equitable system. We all know, the more enrollment you have, the more likely you will get more kids to come out, and so on...Yes, there are exceptions...
Regarding what has been brought up above, each section has the ability to divide the divisions any way they wish, except for Division V, which is 600 and below. No matter how they do it, the Southern Section has many more teams (and many larger teams) and the numbers will never match up fairly. I repeat that dividing the divisions by enrollment is the fairest way to do it. McFarland, for many years, competed in Division I based on the strength of its team compared to other Central Section schools. That was very difficult for a Division IV team to compete with Division I teams.
If the Sections can't do it for some reason then they could do it at the State level. Take all the qualifying teams and move the top 20% sized schools by enrollment into D1, next 20% into D2 and so on. This happens at the Clovis Invitational every year.
Any teams that win at State shouldn't be allowed to move down a division the next year. Some Sections do this but the State does not.
The idea of top 20% and so on has been brought up before. I have also mentioned potentially having an open race so the top CA teams can race each other to determine the NXN auto teams. Just as with anything, it's a long process to get something like this approved and it has to go through many levels. You must be able to convince the majority that your proposed system is superior to the current one. And if it is, how will you administer the new format?
Putting the races together would be the easy part. Clovis Invitational does this every year. Getting the old officials to change is the hard part.
