Granda & Amador Valley are clear choices in div 2 boys
Granada & Amador Valley are clear choices in div 2 boys
Any huge surprises since the original rankings came out?
Logan Farzan should be ranked above Javin in D4, he beat him by 25 seconds at Farmers and ran 15:15 at NCS last year. Javin’s PR is from an all flat course.
No division III individual rankings?
I will take a look at Division IV again and Division III individual rankings are up now.
Hard to tell where Logan Farzan should be ranked at this point in the season as it appears he hasn't raced since September. Whereas Javin Schmitt has shown clear progression throughout October as he and his team have taken on Albany in multiple competitive TCAL center meets on the difficult Point Pinole course.

Someone asked about surprise teams this season so I did a quick comparison and there are 10 teams now ranked in State qualifying position who were not ranked in that position in the preseason rankings.
Those 10 are: Cal Boys, DLS Boys, Monte Vista Boys, Santa Rosa Boys, Newark Boys, Miramonte Boys, St. Mary's Boys, Cal Girls, Piedmont Girls, Bay School Girls
The changes in the rankings...
D1 Boys: Cal in , Dublin out
D2 Boys: De la Salle and Monte Vista in, Redwood and Clayton Valley out
D3 Boys: Santa Rosa and Newark in, Northgate and Las Lomas out
D4 Boys: Miramonte and St. Mary's in , Archie Williams and Bishop O'Dowd out
D5 Boys: No changes
D1 Girls: Cal in , Berkeley out
D2 Girls: No changes
D3 Girls: No changes
D4 Girls: Piedmont in, St. Marys out
D5 Girls: Bay School in, College Prep out
Miramonte boys seem to have made the biggest jump in the ranks. Ranked 5th for D4 in the pre-season they are now favored to win D4.
Div 4 picks
1. St Mary’s— has more depth #1-7 than any other team.
2. Miramonte—good showing at Roughrider on state course
3. Archie Williams—very much under radar… but have strong pack
4. Albany—great 1-2 punch.. but 4-7 suspect.
Thank you all for the comments. Keep them coming.
I’ll be honest: y’all ain’t ready for CCS rankings 👀👀👀
Div 5 boys individuals?
I think Sabrina Noriega goes to Dougherty Valley
Sabrina Noriega is at Dublin now.
I miss Walt Van Zant's CCS "rankings". I will see what I can do in the next week or so.
For D5 boys, #1 should be Malcolm Oakes (not 'Oats'). Three additional boys from BCL West for consideration as D5 individuals: Alister Adair (University), Devin Price (San Domenico), Lucas Chang (Bay). Note: BCL West #3 is on Monday Oct 23.
How about SJS rankings? Love to see your thoughts!
On Milesplit, you can compare athletes and Allister Adair and Devin Price have raced each other 24 times!! and that might be with races that possibly didn't make the database.
You have San Leandro ranked #5 for Division 1 boys in the NCS. This season San Leandro has been moved down to Division 2. They have been replaced in Division 1 by Liberty (Brentwood).
D1 boys has San Leandro listed as fifth - they're not in the division - James Logan is my pick for #5
Santa Rosa boys are undefeated in league competition—they beat Maria Carrillo. And it looks like Santa Rosa is back in Division 3 this year? Seems like at least one or two of their top guys should be in the individual rankings.
We want rankings!!
I was thinking the opposite on the Santa Rosa boys as well as the Newark Memorial boys I haven't seen them do much outside of their leagues -- and I was not expecting Northgate and Las Lomas moved out of div. 3 rankings. These DAL schools have been in the mix at NCS in past years despite being in a tough league so not being able to win at league meets. League meets only matter to a point as NCS draws from a much larger pool. Not sure how much Santa Rosa and Newark Memorial have really done outside of their league to move Northgate and Las Lomas out of the top 4.
Will be interesting to see what happens at ncs in d3 boys. Seems like it should be very close between Santa Rosa, Maria Carillo, Newark, Northgate, Las Lomas and Tamalpais. 6 teams for 3 spots makes for great racing. Seems like MC and NM have that number 1 who can get them a low stick which is always helpful in the big races, they will need Wilson/Patel to show up big on NCS day since it seems like they have a 4 and 5 who will be further back
Olivia Williams has to be favored at this point to win girls NCS D4, she just ran 17:08 at Mariner.
How about casa grande for d3? Both the girls and boys varsity squads have been winning in the vval league
Don’t D3 girls and boys get 4 spots from NCS to go to the state meet?
It should be noted that Santa Rosa boys beat Maria Carrillo while sitting out one of their top 5 runners.
We need our CCS rankings! !!!
I think anon at 11:26am is implying that Campolindo will be winning NCS D3 boys and that the remaining 3 spots will be hotly contested. Based on Roughrider times, Campolindo should be way out in front of the rest of the NCS.
But what about CCS? Not the only section here
BCL3 Results: https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/224747/results/all
Both of Lick Wilmerding's teams are under-ranked, and Sean Green and Ella Mogannam should be much higher on both lists.
I think that was the obvious implication as well that those 6 teams would be vying for the 3 spots behind campo. Some of those 6 teams definitely have better shots than others but should be very competitive. And will be interesting to see what happens between Santa Rosa and Carrillo at NCS. Racing a dual meet is a totally different ball game compared to NCS
Anonymous Oct 25 8:41 AM: Sean and Malcolm were really fun to watch out there at BCL 3. They feed off one another. Agree about Ella Mogannam as well. She is having a great season.
Agree that dual meets are totally different ball game. Why is that league still racing dual meets anyways -- aren't they a thing of the past?
Think that it may be good to check out Eme Williams (Athenian, D5) and her stats - in the head to head league meets she's won almost all of the xc races against Talia Green.
Sevan Ikeda (California School for the Deaf, D5) should be recognized in top 5 for Div V Boys since he already beat Devin Price and Allister Aldair at Jim Tracy Challenge (5K). He is also in top 5 for 3 miles for NCS Div 5 Boys on Athletic.net. Also, He placed in 2nd place at BCL East #2 meet behind Owen Irving and in 4th place at BCL East #3 meet.
Thanks for the comments. All noted and an update will be posted shortly.
Add Arran Gill-Guliti {Amador Valley} to indv. list in D2
