No Stanford Invitational in 2019

Per the Stanford meets website:
Cross Country: The Stanford Cross Country Invitational will not be contested in 2019.

When the Stanford Invitational wasn't held two years ago, many suspected that this meet was on it's way out. With Stanford hosting Pac 12s last year, the meet made a one year return and it now appears that this meet will eventually vanish from everybody's schedule for the foreseeable future. Unless there is a coaching change to somebody that sees value in this meet, it appears that we will all be looking for another meet during that late September weekend. For us Division V teams, this was one of the few opportunities where we were able to race other teams our size and was a great preview of the state meet. I know many of us coaches/athletes will miss this meet.

It has been confirmed that next year, the CCS meet will be held at the Crystal Springs course provided there are no air quality issues.

Lastly, I am going to start posting a preliminary schedule of cross country meets so if you have meets that you would like to add to the calendar, please post those below.

I'm not surprised. They haven't seemed too excited to host it in recent years. The excuse of having a home football game appeared to be just that, given that they've had plenty of home games that lined up with the XC meet through the years.
Good news for Capital Cross in Sac!

Everyone knew that this meet is toast. The only reason it came back this year is that Stanford hosted the Pac 12 championship. Find another meet people because Stanford is never coming back.

Stanford just threw everyone a bone last year. They have been doing everything they can to cancel the meet without actually saying it. They finally came clean.
Somebody has a chance to hold a really good invitational - you know a lot of teams will have an open date that day:)

A lot of high school kids are going to miss out on a great experience. There are other meets of course, but Stanford was really something special.

I have great memories of running at Stanford and then watching my daughter run there. I will miss the meet. Thank you Stanford for all the years it was held.

Stanford really wasn't that great. The awards stunk- Win it and you get a shirt--- Huzzah! The schedule never changed. If you were a D IV school the schedule was excellent. Not so good for division II or those who were always in the afternoon. The course was repeatedly changed. They charged more than most meets. They knew people would come because the college coaches would be there. Miss it-- not much.

Considering college don’t really race anymore this is not shocking. If it’s not pre-Nats/Wisconsin, conference, Regionals or Nationals they don’t race it.

Not surprising that schools drop the sport. Why spend money on a team that doesn’t compete?

Listen this isn't surprising from this current coaching staff. They are the same ones that sponsored a track and field meet last week called the Cardinal Classic. Well this "Classic" didn't even include the 4 x 1 relay. Very telling!!! The dumbing down of our sport continues. You just didn't expect it from a reputable institution of higher learning.

Well until something else comes along I think Capital Cross might become the "Woodbridge" of Norcal. Fast flat course, no difficulty. College race in the middle of schedule. Great for networking.

Maybe, with the coaching change at CAL they will do something? Highly doubt it though.

If you want a flat and fast course check out the Eye Opener Invitational put on by Casa Grande in Petaluma. We started two years ago when Stanford cancelled. This will be the third year. If you want to be added to the email list let me know. Carl Triola, Casa Grande XC - ctriola@oldadobe.org
