I have updated all the nominees. Who else should be considered? To whoever asked, I would say that more weight should given to high school performances and not what was accomplished after high school. The list gets way too big when you start adding athletes who did "OK" in high school and then really took off in college and beyond.

We didn't really consider Ed Moody a hurdler, we always thought of him as a sprinter. I think he just started hurdling on the side to get points for McClymonds High school. However, that guy was correct, he did set a National hurdle record in the Calif. State meet that I don't think was broken.

surprised Nate Esparza from Amador Valley didn't make your throwers list? I believe he is NCS record holder in shot put (just shy of 70ft,not many of those) was 2nd in state that year. He was also over 190ft in discus that same year (5th in state) was that an oversite or are those on the list that much better?

I am completely biased but I will post my opinion anyway. Jason Gomez should be on the middle distance list and he should be pretty high. He has the 2nd fastest time in CCS history for the 800m with a 1:50.21. He took 4th in state as a Junior and was 1st in state as a Senior. He ended the year ranked 7th in the nation. He also ran a 1:51.86 indoor at the NB Nationals.

A good discussion. Mike Shavers is my addition. I was Mike Shavers' (Albany High) teammate in 1972. He ran a 9.5 100 yard dash 6 times and 21.0 numerous times in the 220 yd as a junior (20.7 converted to melters). I ran 9.6 and 21.6 as a senior. We defeated Chuck Bommarito (spelling?) numerous times.

Ron Harvey is one of the greatest high school track and field athletes in the history of Northern California. At Skyline High School in 1979, Ron was a Football scholarship athlete and a one-year Track competitor. In his senior year in his first-ever pre-season invitational meet - Fresno relays he recorded a jump of 6'10 3/4. He recorded an undefeated OAL track-season culminated with a record jump of 7 feet 1/2 inches to break the Oakland high-jump record and become just the 3rd person in Eastbay history to jump over 7 feet. This jump was recorded during a dual meet at Laney college against Fremont High School. Still only behind Mark Wilson - Monte Vista as the 2nd highest height in east bay history. He recorded an undefeated season finishing number two in Cal behind So. Cals Lee Balkin who jumped 7'3". He was all Northern California track and field that year in 1979 along with Bill Hines, Ray Threat.

Joe DeDora, Santa Rosa High School. 100-2220-440-mile relay- long jump-indoor 60 San Francisco Chronicle games open, winner. All around runner. even remember him running 880 on 2 mile relay. One of the bests ever in norcal.
