Feel free to comment on the above rankings. I thought it would be interesting to rank the teams and individuals before Saturday's state meet. I based the rankings off the performances at the section meets (CCS, SJS, NCS, NS, OAK and SF). If you feel, like I left runners and/or teams off the list, please let me know. We can compare this list to what actually happens at the state meet following this Saturday.

Without getting petty, my boys' team did beat Monte Vista at NCS, and we were within seconds of DLS on team time. I'd like to think that we could get an Honorable Mention on the list.

Hi Albert - Good fun.
Just curious on your thought process - what was your rationale for ranking NCS teams relative to CCS (for example, Livemore girls ahead of St Ignatius? - both were very strong - how do you make the call which is better?)
Also - I think I would have ranked Carondolet ahead of Maria Carrillo (they had the better team time at NCS).

Good questions.
In comparing the CCS and NCS teams, it's difficult in that the courses and the weather at each section meet was so different.
I gave Livermore the edge for being the best girls' team at the NCS meet. I think St. Ignatius will do very well at the state meet because they have two runners that could potentially both finish in the top 10 which is a huge advantage for them.
If you check out the following link, Maria Carrillo is clearly ahead of Carondelet despite the team time.

No love for Norcal on dyestatcal dropping SMB Girls from 1st to 2nd. Of course I'm bias but after their dominating NCS performance didn't think they should have dropped. Oh well, we'll find out Saturday. Go Panthers - girls and boys.

Whats your reasoning for having Jennifer Bergman infront of Jacque Taylor. Just curious...
I think the three best girls in Northern California are those listed in the top 3. I don't believe they have raced each other head to head at any point this year (although they have been at the same course and meet such as Stanford and Mt. SAC) so all I can do is project who I think is the best.
I would not be surprised if Jacque ends up with the fastest time for a Northern California girl at state.
We'll just have to see what happens on Saturday. Fedronic will be in Div. I, Taylor in Div. II and Bergman in Div. III.
Carondolet should show even with Livermore this week--even after losing Hood and #4 Sandri (freak accident collarbone hit by wave on the beach). Cerney over George last week signalled the turn-around, and Kelly Houser should rebound from her most difficult race of the year. #2 or #3 in Norcal, not #8.
Why is Garrett Rowe ranked ahead of Tyre Johnson? Johnson ran a faster time than Rowe at CCS Finals (1 second faster).. but Johnson was also running when it was 15-20 degrees hotter. Johnson also ran faster than Lema.. he should be top 3 AT LEAST.. plus his 15:15 at Woodward at Clovis Invitational that was faster than Rowe, Myjer, etc.
Daly seems to be ranked too high as well. She has lost to her own teammate, Rachel Hinds, before and Ferrante is also up there. Also, Carlmont boys seem to be ranked too high and the girls are ranked too low. Keep in mind the girls ran at CCS finals in the hottest part of the day.. and the boys are nowhere near the caliber of some of those teams.
I agree Tyre Johnson deserves at least a top 3 ranking and should probably be #1. Johnson, Rowe and Landrum are the 3 runners most equipped to be the fastest Nor Cal runner at state. Mostly I'd like to hear the justification for Peterson at #2. It has to be gut instinct because his performances don't back it up.
Thanks for all the feedback folks. The idea for the rankings was to get some conversation going before the state meet. Lot of good points have been made.
We'll just have to see on Saturday how everybody on the lists (and perhaps not on the lists) stack up.

I just saw the results. What a race by Rowe! 15:03 for the second fastest time of the day all divisions. 8th all time junior at Woodward.
Incredible race for Rowe today. He was definitely the top Northern CA runner today but look at the runners behind him who also ran well including Landrum, MacQuitty, Litwiller, Peterson, Olson etc.
I will have lists of the top teams and individuals from Northern California as soon as I recover from the drive...
Great job by all. Being part of such a great atmosphere at the state meet is definitely worth all the work that goes into the journey to qualify for such a great meet.
