With Mt Sac and Clovis cancelling, nice to see at least one meet which has lasted so long, continue.
Clovis is taking place this year but only for local teams
Credit to Coach Selby and his staff for communicating clearly the restrictions in place that allowed the meet to happen and ensuring that teams abided by them. I covered the meet for MileSplit and talked to several of the athletes, coaches and parents. I heard so many stories of how much being able to compete meant to them and how much of a struggle many of them have had throughout the pandemic. Obviously we all need to continue to maintain or due diligence in order to get back to some sense of normalcy, but if precautions are in place, things like this can happen safely.
On a competitive note, it looks like Whitney has got a good one in freshman Angeline Gutierrez who won the varsity girls race and looked very comfortable doing so.
While I know sports are important to many I want to say that the risk is still there. While the narrative seems to be that the risk to youth and transmission to their family is rare, today a student of mine with COVID went into a coma in the ICU. Another co-worker has had two family members die. We are starting sports with cases worse than ever. Please continue to be careful everyone. This is real.
Tier system going away. Governor feeling pressure politically and going to open everything up. Football coming to a school near you soon!
