Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) Boys Pre-Season Rankings by Jason Jimenez

This is an outline of the top SJS Boys teams. Teams are ranked within their 2008 divisions. Some teams may move up or down divisions. Only Divisions 1-3 have been ranked.

Division 1

1 Davis

2 Grace Davis

3 Franklin

4 Modesto

5 Galt

Davis Sr. returns 4 of its Varsity banner winning squad. With a deep stable of very

capable harriers, the Blue Devils are nearly guaranteed another title. The questions remaining are how fast will they actually run and, for curiosity's sake, will Jesuit or Oak Ridge actually move in to Division 1 to add a little spice?

Grace Davis through Galt all seem to have squads capable of putting together something special in 2009.

Watch: Lincoln-Stockton, Sheldon, Kennedy

Division 2

1 Oak Ridge

2 Jesuit

3 Del Campo

4 Fairfield

5 Woodcreek

No one would have guessed that Woodcreek would win the most competitive division in the SJS last year. But that's

why the sport is so exciting. Anything can happen. Oak Ridge has the tools and the know-how to dominate this division.

Never sleep on Jesuit or Del Campo... or Fairfield for that matter. Just like last year, if all these teams remain in this

division, this could be the most exciting SJS race in November.

Watch: Ponderosa

Division 3

1 El Camino

2 Placer

3 Del Oro

4 Sonora

5 Woodland

Last year El Camino won its first Varsity banner in over 40 years. My magic 8 ball tells me another one might be on its

way in 2009. The Eagles lose only 1 scorer from 2008, leaving a junior-dominated group left to get the job done. This

won't be necessarily easy as two very capable teams in Placer and Del Oro are more than willing to race hard when the

time comes. The depth in this division is nowhere close to the larger divisions so I would not expect for any other teams

to legitimately challenge for the very coveted 2 State berths.

Watch: Division 3's top teams are essentially settled with those top 5.
