2014 NCS Pre-Season Division III Girls Individual Rankings

By Campolindo HS assistant coach, Andy Lindquist

NCS Division III Girls Individuals
Overview: Once again look for the individual title to go to a DFAL runner (the last non DFAL winner in this division was back in 2009) as all the top finishers from a year ago return to battle it out for top honors.

1. Brighie Leach (Campolindo) – The defending NCS champion rebounded from an injury plagued winter to run a 4:54 1600m this past spring to advance to the state meet finals in that event. Still the favorite at this point in time.

2. Chloe Hansel (Las Lomas) – The NCS runner-up last season and State 4th place finisher had another quality track season notching a 4:54 1600m time. Still remains to be seen how this translates into the longer cross country distance.

3. Mary Orders (Campolindo) Continued improvement this track season leading to a 10:58 performance in the 3200m and a 5:04 clocking in the 1600m. Quality teammates and quality competition in the DFAL should continue this upward momentum.

4. Allie Timbrell  (Alhambra) Was having a productive track season, running a 5:01 1600m early in the season only to be derailed by late injury. Still, competing in the DFAL will give her plenty of chances to measure up against quality competition.

5. Hana Sun (Campolindo) Campo's usual 4th/5th scorer last season, Sun was hampered by injuries in the later stages of the season and was unable to compete in the postseason. Rebounded in a big way in track by running 5:10 in the 1600m. Being a member of Chuck's Army and getting to train with a bunch of talented teammates everyday is a huge advantage.

6. Julia Cooke (Bishop O'Dowd) A quality performer for the dragons last season, Cooke continued to improve this track season by running5:14 and 11:11 in the 1600 and 3200 respectively. With O'Dowd returning the majority of their team from last year, look for more steady improvement.

7. Jourdan Amen (Bishop O'Dowd) Last years 5th place finisher at NCS continued to get better as the track season wore on, running her best 3200m time of 11:12 at the NCS Meet of Champions. Getting to train with a solid pack of teammates with similar personal bests should lead to another level of improvement this fall.

On the bubble: Sarah Cella (Campolindo) Hannah Fishlow (Miramonte) Rachel Johnson (Campolindo) Alyssa Byer (Bishop O'Dowd) Sammy Taketa (Acalanes) Grace Taylor (Bishop O'Dowd) Meredith Nix (Bishop O'Dowd)

Feel free to comment on the above rankings in the comment section below. If you know of any incoming 9th graders who may break into this group, feel free to share their names and accomplishments as well.

Love the subtle digs on the non Campo runners. And what's up with all the injuries?

Redwood has moved up to DII this cross country season.
