I am looking forward to seeing what St. Francis does this week. Does anyone know if they got an impact freshman, or who might be the guy to step into the top 7?
According to their coach’s MileSplit interview, Euan Cairns has been having a good summer. He ran 1:55 on the track. He sounds like a strong addition to this star studded team.
An 8th grader ran 1:55 last year and is going to Saint Francis?
Cairns had a good freshman season for St Francis in 2016. At the time, he was just ahead of JP Garcia. He didn't run XC for them last year.
I guess we will see a lot of the freshmen in action this weekend at Early Bird. They run in classes so it will be easy to tell what teams got an immediate impact guy. As far as SF goes, it looks like there are a few guys in line to take the only spot open after last year. They are Cairns, Schwartz, and Eagan. If Cairns and Eagan do step up this year, that would put SF on good footing next year with returners Garcia and Maddison, especially if they can find a frosh/soph to step forward this year or next.
It's sad to see a great meet like this go away after 23 years. Gus, you have done a tremendous job over the years of carrying on one of the best Cross Country meets in the state. I personally appreciated all the work you, your teams and past coaches like Bruce White and Jess Soliven have done all these years. There is nothing like this to compare, that is fun and challenging like this at the beginning of the year. If it wasn't so far away from me now, I would be there in a heartbeat if it worked into our Cross Country schedule. Earlybird (Toro Park) has so much history that long time coaches like ourselves will always appreciate and talk about for years to come! I wish you the best Gus and again Thank you for always putting on a 1st Class Invite! Best of luck to everyone at Earlybird!

No, I believe that Cairns was a sophomore. His sister was a freshman and was one of the top 800m runners in CCS.
An 8th grader, Kellen Steplight did run 1:59.43 last year and is a freshman at Vacaville now. He has finished in the top 10 at both varsity races at Lagoon Valley Classic and Ed Sias.
Correct...Euan Cairns (male) is now a jr. @ St. Francis-Mt. View. His sister, Issy, is a sophomore.
SFMV Returners: Colonna Sr; Eng Sr; Skahill Sr; Elephant Sr; Garcia Jr; and Maddison Jr. It appears that Cairns Jr and Garver Jr have both been mentioned as the likely #7 by Mile Split and Dyestat. While Earlybird is run in grades, I think they still take the top 5 for determining the course record. You have to assume that if everyone is healthy, the record could go down on Saturday. I will be there to watch a bit of NorCal history in the making and report back. Good luck to everyone running this weekend!
Rob, thanks for the kind words. It's teams like yours at SLV that made the meet what it is over the years. Earlybird has been a wonderful meet for all of us and I will also miss it. I'm glad you and your kids enjoyed it :)

Albert, who do you think will win each race? Could we get a prediction from you?
Great question! Who do you all think will win each race?
We even have a world record holder going for a win this weekend! That's pretty cool :)
Enjoy the meet!

Senior - McKenzie (Los Altos)
Junior - Garcia (St Francis MV)
Sophomore - Peattie (Bellarmine)
