Good tempo race and nice win by Frisbee but nothing blazing fast @5:34 pace

Lol. Not a tempo. Do you all know what that means?

Yes controlled at 80/85% effort try 21:20 for 4 miles at controlled effort in a workout not a race

3:15 has a good point frisbee ran 15:29 for a 5k or 4:59 pace at state and ran 5:34 pace for an 8k. He should be able to race a 8k in 26:00-26:15or 5:12-5:15 pace so 5:34 pace should be nothing more than a solid workout or tempo run for him.

Agreed that it's not an all out effort. But you can't take state PR pace and use that to determine training pace. Also high schoolers are traditionally weaker the longer you go. Have you ever seen the USATF youth 10k results?

not all out but I'm guessing its still harder effort than you are all assuming.

I think he ran to win. This is a small local race put on by the track club he trains with. The top 3 places and time didn't change much after the halfway point. The 2 college kids close behind kept him moving, but I don't think any of the top 3 ran this as an all out race. I believe Jose PiƱa won last year's race in 26:56. A very nice effort for 1/1 on a very cold morning.

I think you are all missing the important fact that the race course has a climb of over 400 feet in the first half of the race. Thus, comparing paces with the state XC course is not particularly illuminating.

it's a pretty tame 400 ft. I think the top 3 could all have run a lot faster if they wanted, or needed to.

There are two climbs, and neither are tame...the first is shorter but steep, and the second is long and steeper than anything on any cross country course in Northern California. The temperature was not a factor (I 'ran' in the race), but the hills definitely are!!

pmcc - i agree with you about the hills on that course but didn't want to comment for at my advanced age an overpass feels like Mt Everest.

There is a gradual 100 ft increase spread out over the first 2 miles. The last 250 ft "climb" is 2 easy hills spread out over a half mile with a nice downhill in between where it's easy to get your stride back. You can really fly on the way back to town. Sorry dude, but this is a rec walk for 60 year old most days of the week( I ran the race too). The ice was worst part. The big hill at Crystal Springs is significantly tougher. I think a college age woman ran this race in 26:30 a few years ago. This course can be run a lot faster by a kid who ran 15:29 at Woodward.

Oops. I didn't realize who I was messing with. You know your stuff for sure. I'm just willing to bet Kyle Rae has run that 5 miles a lot faster then 28:00 on occasion.

GEEZ! Everyone is so critical. My kid did a holiday race and won, too, at a less than state pace, just to keep running. He would be mortified to see people scrutinizing his results!

How about just "Way to go David! Nice Race."

Sorry. My tone is always horrible. Im not trying to scrutinize. Actually compliment. Sub 28 is flying on this course. I just meant to say that if he ran with the same intensity as state, and this was 11/30/14 he'd probably run 26:00. This kid could probably run the last 2 miles sub 10:00 without a whole lot of trouble. A few other youngsters ran very well too. Great job for 1/1.
Happy New Year.

That sounded bad too. Great job for any day.

lmao bruh isnt a state champ and yall are analyzing his race like he's Ritz or something

Cmon Bruh. IMHO 5th at state ain't gonna cut it. Maybe if you win next year we can talk about what you're doing in the off season.
Since when did Dog Chapman, or "Meat Head" Rob Lowe start liking XC?
Slow week I guess.
