Is Tamalpais new in D3 this year?

Albert Caruana said...

They were in Division 3 last year as well.

D3 girls gonna be 😬😳🫣

Campolindo girls?

Why are there different numbers of people in each division?

Division 3 has been updated. I have different numbers of individuals because I have more information on some divisions. I will update as the comments continue and I gather more data.

I do question where Campolindo girls fit. I don't know a lot about NCS or Campolindo and they don't do a lot of the meets that other teams do so hard to compare head to head. Prep Cal Track had them at 4th in the STATE for D3 and you have much lower obviously.

I think Prep Cal Track ranked Campolindo girls based on what they "could be" versus what they have actually done. Here they seem to be ranked based on what they have done as a team on paper this season. If they show up to NCS with their top 7 fit and healthy then they are the favorite

Campolindo's top 3 girls have barely raced this year. Only like 1 or 2 times each on a cross country course

Is Ashlin Mallon injured or not running for Maria Carrillo?

Albert Caruana said...

It was reported during the summer that Ashlin was bypassing the cross country season this fall.

Anyone know the reason why?

It was not a fluke that Castro Valley girls came in 2nd last year to qualify to CIF. Most of that team has returned and led by super soph Iliana Niergarten. They should be favored to place 2nd again.

Will keep an eye on Castro Valley girls. They have definitely been very strong in the past including last year.

I don’t understand why Ben Friedman is ranked ahead of Sevan Ikeda. Sevan is ranked ahead of Ben based on 3 miles and 5K times. They have not run against each other this season yet.

I am updating these lists tonight as I finish up the section preview article. Stay tuned.

wow! Amador Valley boys #6 in d2. Think you are way off on that one.

The rain and muddy course at Hayward might be worse than last year.

Anonymous said...

The mud will be a huge factor

Bay School is listed twice for the boys D5.

For sure, times will be considerably slower potentially even 30+ seconds!

Does anyone know how the number of state spots each section by division?

For example is it based on how many each section's teams finish in the top 10 at the state meet?

Albert Caruana said...

The number of qualifying teams from each section and division are based on top 10 finishes over the past 3 years. The more teams each section gets into the top 10, the more teams they can potentially get to the state meet as the numbers are adjusted before each season.

Thanks Albert. So every section gets a minimum of 1 and then any additional spots are determined by top 10 average last 3 years?

Albert Caruana said...

Most sections have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 7. *Oakland and San Francisco each earn 1 team entry per gender. The team division will be determined based upon their respective Section divisional placement. The LA section gets more teams in Division I and 1 each per gender for the other divisions.
