For those of you that are familiar with the Tully Runners rankings, you know the pre-season team national rankings were posted yesterday. The rankings, thanks to Bill Meylan (photo courtesy of Stephen D. Cannerelli), have been around since 2000 and are based on his speed rating. In total, 18 California teams (8 NorCal) are ranked or at the very least mentioned. You can find the girls and boys rankings at the following links:

8 of the top pre-season national teams from CA! 3 of the 8 from NorCal, 2 from CCS (WCAL)! A great time to be a NorCal distance fan.
Can someone go through the NXN qualifying process for teams and individuals from the CA region? How many will make the cut?
NXN Qualifying process is 2 teams from CIF (California Region) based on times I believe "automatically" makes it to Nationals plus 5 individuals not in those 2 auto teams, again based on times. Plus 4 more AT-Large Teams will be considered from all the Regions 3rd & 4th place finishing Teams based on time. CA usually gets at least 1 of the at-larges but you never know.
NXN is decided by points, following a power merge of the top 20 teams over-all. A number of years ago Mountain View boys ran the fastest (or 2nd fastest) team time but finished outside the qualifying teams for NXN.
